Ever sell a car/truck and wish you knew where it was today?
I sold this 55 Chevy 150 sedan in 1992, saw it once a couple of years later, but haven't seen it since. Probably still in southern Ontario Canada somewhere.
Just thought a thread with all our sold and lost rods might be fun..............and maybe the new owners can get in touch with us, for old times sake....................
While there are lots (something north of 100) that I'd be curious to know where they are now, there aren't many that I hold any particular reverence for. For pure nostalgia sake my first car, a '51 Merc tudor (no pic available). The other that is one of only a very few I really regretted selling was the '64 Plymouth Savoy, S/S clone. I managed to track down why I hadn't seen it a couple years ago. The drunk dumbass I sold it to totaled it!:(
I dont have any pictures but I built a 63 Ford Falcon van (hence the screen name)with a chevy 350/700r4 combo a few years back that was the ultimate burnout machine. I read an old Hot Rod article from 1973 on swapping in a 302 Ford/C4 and just modified it from there. My favorite line in the article said," The stock rearend in the 62-64 Econoline/Falconvans was a very weak unit capable of handling no more than the stock 85HP delivered by the 140CI inline six. Do not attempt to use this rearend in the V8 swap!" I beg to differ, I was pushing about 350HP and abused that rearend to death; but she never missed a lick. I hope Falconvan's still running around out there somewhere.
My old photos of all my old cars are in storage someplace in my garage (been 16 years since I last saw them).
1. My first, at age 16 in 1962, was a 1956 Ford Crown Vic, Coral and White with the 292 V8. Sold it to get a VW bug to go to college with. Really missed the Vic's backseat. :LOL: :CRY: Wrecked the bug, no idea where the Vic is today.
2. Fiat Dino, baby Ferrari, parts always the problem. Sold to a nutty collector, haven't seen him in 15 yrs, he might still have it among all of the other gems he has kept.:CRY:
3.1969 Chevelle SS396. Loaned to a friend who while dui hit the rear of dumptruck and killed the car and almost himself. Insurance paid for the Cuda (next)
4. 1969 Barracuda, Formula S, fastback, 383/330hp 4 spd. With help from friends at the dealership, swapped out the 383 for a 426 Hemi in 1971. 6 mpg and loving it for a while. Then in 73, the first oil embargo. Car sold to a racing shop in Baltimore.:CRY: Haven't seen it since. Just as well, I don't like feeling sick and crying all of the time. :CRY: But boy would I love to get it back, even with out the hemi.:eek: :3dSMILE:
One that got a way, because I hesitated too long. 1965 Ford GT40 Mark IV. Guy in Miami Florida had two to sell in 1973. Asking price was $16k. A lot of money back then (NEW Ferrari 365 GTB Daytonas were only $16k in '73). When I called to get it, it was gone. Loved the looks and the ride, who would have guessed that they would bring millions today. :eek: Surely not me. :CRY: :CRY:
At GG Columbus in 2001, a 1946 Ford coupe, completely finished. Really sharp. Owner wouldn't come down from $19k (only had $18k at the time). Probably should have hit up some relatives for the extra $1k, but didn't want be in debt to family, so I missed it. Oh well, got my 34 Plymouth instead and still love it today.
There were at least another dozen or so along the way, but not worth mentioning.
