I'm not really worried about the fuel temp too much. Like Roger mentioned, every factory sump I've taken out of a fuel tank has the return dumping right into the bowl. I'm going to run it like it is and see how it works. If I got to change something, I'm getting really good at taking the fuel tank down.Seth

I picked up a smaller air filter for Rita today to see if I could stuff that under the hood in a better way. I think I have a winner, it tucked in there pretty nice and now I just need to make a partial air box around it.Seth

It's time to try to pretty things up under the hood. I bought a small sheet metal brake for making an intake cover and coil covers. I figured if I make em, I'll have the press paid for plus a about $150 in the pocket vs buying them. Plus I need to make a cold air intake for the air filter. This is what I got mocked up so far.Seth

Seth, nice work. You should google pics for smoothed/sanded truck intakes. They actually look pretty cool smoothed and painted. That's what I'm going to do to mine for now.Ryan

I thought about going that route but the thought of sitting there for hours sanding, plastic welding and filling holes made me go this route. I think I'll paint it and the coil covers the same color as the pickup, and I might put something on the intake cover to jazz it up a bit, not sure what though.Seth

I had to google Von Dutch to see what it was. Every body has their own taste and most people like that type of striping, but I never really cared to much for it. I almost feel bad for not caring for it too much because it takes a lot of talent and time to do it. Thanks for the idea though !Seth

Well, I went to bed with it raining last night and woke up to this in the morning so I spent the day figuring out what to do for a cold air intake. This is what I came up with and I think it will work ok. It shouldn't be a terrible eye sore after I get it smoothed out a bit and painted up.Seth

I started making some coil covers for the 5.3, I just couldn't see spending $200 plus on some bought'n ones. Robert is good at showing special bend and tools on his 55 so I thought I'd give it a try. The tool in the second pic is called a pliers The Cover is in proto stage but you get the idea. Nice use of the pliers. I used some crescent wrenches to bend some 1/4" plate the other day on the 40. I used some crescent wrenches to bend some 1/4" plate the other day on the 40.Last edited by 40FordDeluxe; 03-29-2018 at 08:01 PM. Ryan
