1947 Chrysler New Yorker four door sedan

WOW!!! and WOW!!! again, I definitely got my questions answered and then some. I want to thank all you guys for jumping in and helping me with my questions. Like I said I'm new at this and I've been to a couple other forums before finding this one and none of them holds a candle to the people here at Clubhotrod. I'll be 64 years old in three days and I've met a lot of people in my life time so I know what I'm talking about. When I started this project I was a little bit worried about getting it finished, but with guys like you around my ride will get finished. I have to give a special shout out to techinspector1 for all the hard work and research that he put into his answer. I haven't deciphered the whole thing yet but every time I read it I figure out a little more. So thanks to all you guys again and I know I'll have tons of questions for you coming up. THE. BUCKSTER

Just hung up talking to Ken (NTFDAY), but before I get my shower I wanted to tell a story on us kids....when we were kids. My first car was a '47 Dodge 4-door, 1st cousin to your '47 Chrysler. Back in the day, I was one of the first of our crowd to have a car, so a lot of the fellows rode with me wherever we went. Well, we had formed this car club named Viking Customs in Dayton, Ohio and had joined the NHRA as a Charter club, going out to the local airport, Dahio, where we ran impromptu drag races on a side taxiway on Sundays. All the clubs in the valley pitched in to operate the strip and it was a good time had by all. Ken was the flag starter, I worked tech inspection and the big end timing lights and others took this job and that.

Anyway, one Sunday afternoon after the drags, we all loaded into "Bouncin' Beulah" (yep, her name was painted on the rear of the front fenders) and headed back toward Dayton. As I remember, we had 8 guys packed into the old Dodge, 4 in the front and 4 in the rear. Well, down the road a piece, here came 2 guys in a '49 Ford, attempting to pass us. Oh hell no, I said and stomped on the loud pedal. We were on a very narrow little paved road, barely enough room for 2 cars, particularly passing concrete culverts that were narrower than the roadway. The last time I looked down at the speedo, she was pegged on 80. We couldn't outpull the Ford and he couldn't outpull us. This was at a time when tires and tubes were whatever we could find, put a boot in and put another patch on the innertube to make it work. As I said, we were passing very narrow culverts and could have easily clipped a concrete corner and ended the whole mess right there. Of course there were no seat belts and certainly no front or side bags. Those were still at lease 30 years into the future. I can still imagine the Dayton Daily News headlines that might have been printed the next day....."Drag race turns tragic for Dayton teens".......
