we are on the final stretch now.
after all the hassles so far we got it running and put the timing light on it-bugger timing lite not working!!
went and borrowed another lite- still not working.the motor seemed to be running alright but we pulled no1 lead to see if it was firing
no spark out of it.this was brand new leads and a mallory unilight that was mean't to be good.tested the leads continuity-all good
-swapped it with no 3 lead- same problem- no 1 still not firing.while this was going on someone noticed a spark jumping between the
shifter bracket and the steel floor of the cab that seemd to correspond with the firing order.
ahhhhhhh- problem in the dizzy and the spark is escaping!took cap off and plate that module was attatched too wasn't sitting square.
easily solved buuuuut still didn't fix the problem- more head scratching-cracked cap?swapped that-no difference.
bugger it-ill take the mallory twinpoint out of the motor on my engine stand that i know works and put that in.this motor was really
getting up my goat.was talking to a mate about it (luckily prior to last weekend when i was going to swap dizzys)and he suggested
sparkplug problem-buuuuut theyre brand new .
wouldn't read about it- a new spark plug solved the problem-i always thought ngk's were the best to use but must have struck a dud.
now that the motor was running fine-whats the story about the spark across the gap in the cab, you ask????
upon further inspection it was also sparking between the flexplate and the starter cog.turns out the sparky had run the earths
to the bottom of the starter using one of the starter bolts.should have been fine but it was a chrome starter and chrome is a ratshit conducter
of electricity.it couldn't get from the mtr to the cab and from there back to the battery,soooo we had to run another earth lead.
we're nearly up to date!!!!
motor running fine-check
trans running in all gears-check
wiring all finished-check
all bolts/fittings etc tight -check
last thing to do before bringing it down off the jack stands was a quick rebleed of the brakes to firm up the pedal.
everything was new and i had bled it up awhile ago so planned to bleed most of the fluid thru and top up with new stuff
as i went .but like everything else with this truck this turned into a major headache and i had to take the master cylinder out
cause the pedal went away all together and aerated the front reservoir.stripped it down-couldn't find any problem-bench bled it and
refitted it and it bled up fine so buggared if i know what happened-pretty sure i hadn't let air get in??????
so we are now up todate.
the pickup is back at the panelbeaters/painters having the front and rear windows installed and then its down the road for
a warrant of fitness(our legal check system).
hopefully that will happen tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!

in the last picture above you will see an aluminium plate with writing engraved on it,attatched to the firewall.that is the "holy grail" of hotrodding in new zealand.
it is what LVVTA issue when it passes their inspection and stays with the car until something major is changed on it-eg chassis/body style or running gear.warrent of fitness's are a different ballgame and happen every 6mnths and then there is registration every year.its all about the money!!!!you can put your rego on hold for a rebuild and keep doing that every year until your ready to go back on the road-then just pass a w.o.f and pay current rego and your legal again.LVVTA don't come back into the picture!!.

Yeah, it's as Mark said; his truck has already been through the certification process, and has that little rectangle of aluminium to prove it.
So he doesn't have to face the drama that we've been involved in for the last ten months.
I wouldn't wish that on anybody!
Well done Mark with the little truck, sure looks awesome and that colour is so correct for it it is refreshing. I'm glad I'm not the only dude still using the twin point Mallory dizzie on my Chevy " engine " as I have had so many rodders say to me " can it and replace with a HEI " but I don't have the room for a large ugly looking thing like that and the twin point works darn well and I have never had problems with it so why fix something that doesn't need fixed.
We had twin-point Mallory distributor on the Cobra...biffed it after less than 7,000 miles and went HEI.
It just kept cooking condensors.
It's now done over 30,000 miles with absolutely no ignition issues.
So it's not broken now either!

Yes John, when it does play up I will have to replace it with one of those small diameter Dizzies as I don't fancy cutting into the bulk head of the Bucket to make room for the large HEI. You must admit though, they are big ugly looking dizzies when on an open engined car and look even more shocking when on the front of a engine..:eek::HMMM:;););)

quick update
pickup is now w.o.f.'d for 6 months and registered for a year.
its back at the panel beaters/painters getting the bonnet fitting properly and then final paint and then it goes to the upholsterers.
they are pretty fussy on fitment and its been taking ages to get all the little finishing touches done.
but i 'm determined to get this one finished 100% before driving it .
