Fantastic! The detail of your build is (or should be) an inspiration to all who are or have been building hot rods of any type.
Your attention to detail and the quality of your craftsmanship is nothing short of phenomenal.
Welcome to CHR - looking forward to your participation.
Regards,
Glenn
Very nicely done. And your comment about money - absolutely agree and I didn't have to worry about international shipping and duties.
well lads thanks for your comments
i tried to make some progress on the exhaust but its too cold at the moment its been below zero for about two weeks.we arnt used to that kind of cold here just rain..did a small mock up on the exhaust 2 1/2 inch stainless.got some flanges cut out so i can join the sections together.i will hang the exhausts from these bolts where i can.also using flexi joins from jegs.exhaust hangers are from vw golf i think, these will allow linear expansion, they are cheap and readily available illthrow a spare under the seat just in case .column was pullud from a rotten dodge hearse will nead a little lovin paint and chrome
jegs flex join
very nice work....love the frame mods especially
That steering column looks like about the ugliest I have ever seen as far as rust. But, as long as it still rotates and from the rest of what you have done, am sure it will be a thing of beauty.
Nunattax,
Are you a welder by trade? You made some beautiful welds. Very nice build.
Andy
you are right the column is rotten but i will replace the tube with a new piece.i like the horn ring and wheel was looking for column change now i have all the bracketry.i may be able to get a column from a 30 s morris with spoke wheel i will see how things work out.
andy i dont weld at all but know a great welder, what kev puts together stays together ,im a joiner /carpenter by trade but could have went the mechanical route had things worked out different .grandfather was a carpenter/joiner father was mechanic....happy christmas from chris
Very nice build! I think we get a bit spoiled here with such easy access to parts!!
did a little to the exhaust today ,its great to be back at the rod .
as you can see from the last photo the exhaust pipe is within 2 3/8 in of the petrol pipe .how close is too close.if i reroute .the pipe to the top inside of the frame it will still run close to the headers what do you guys do
You could use a heat shield from stalnless or aluminum to separate the two.
Mine is not much to further distant and have so far not had a bit of trouble. I figure that the gas(petrol) is going through it so fast when I have my foot planted to the floor it can't vapor lock :whacked:
a heat deflector IS on the 'to-do' list though:D.
was considering heat shield and heat wrapping the petrol and exhaust pipes still seems a bit close.how close are your exhaust to the petrol pipes.
Pictures are always better then jacking it up crawling under with a scale. It's the larger, the smaller is a brake line. The photo is before I added the 'H' pipe so the mufflers are about 6" +/- further back

....and with the 'H' pipe for better location. Just found a photo:

thanx dave nice photos .like the way you have plenty of rubber mounts on the exhausts.what engine is in the car fuel lines are on the other side.i am more concerned with clearance around the engine / headers where the exhaust is hottest thanx again
below zero for two weeks !!!!! man ... move away from there
Chris - it's a small block Ford and am using a mechanical pump. I originally plumbed it for an electric pump but changed my mind which is why I did the cross over
Now - clearance in the front:

I do not have any problems there:D
dave your lines look at least as close as mine.i would imagine those metal pipes would absorb more heat than the braided hose as well.i feel a bit better now over n out
Sweet ride keep the pics comming!
will do george im liking the 48 fleetline very much ,nice car
did a little to the exhaust
