    "Z" Project.

Well, I finally decided I'd start a build thread for the "Z". I'm too lazy to post already posted pics. from the everybody............. thread, so this deal will start from 7/23/2011. Sorta' makes it seem like I haven't been workin' on this project for 9 years....................well sorta'.

Ran into another schedule snag, so not much has been done on it lately. Next weekend we'll be at the DragList Nats. VI with Jeff's car, so the "Z" will set at least 'til August.

One of the first pics. taken with the GoPro camera I picked up this week.

Heck I had wondered about your car and where you were with it so now I know and I will be following along thanks.

Hope you're mounting the Go Pro in Jeff's car, been looking at them and wondering how well they work!

Yup, it will get used on Jeff's caah. I hope to also strap it on Rapid Randy Baker's NFC next weekend too. A new Vette I did the lettering on.

I'll hy-jack my own thread for a bit. Last weekend we went to ERP in Eddyville, IA for our annual DragList Nationals VI. My son Jeff has been trying to beat my old panel truck time from back in the 70's (8.48 - 1/8 mile time). After 4 previous attempts, this year he finally got it done, with an 8.25 and an impressive 1.27 60'. This car normally 60's @ around 2.00. It took a 100 shot of nitrous to get it done, but he did it. The 6 speed manual trans is not shift friendly & takes time to shift. I keep trying to talk him into an automatic, but he really likes to bang gears. He says maybe someday a 5 speed manual.

The extra torque was a little much for the torque arm though.

Thanks guys, I hope to get back on the "Z" soon. Jeff's "Z" took up any spare time I've had over the last few days. 95°f + days doesn't help much either.

He's got an aftermarket, Hurst I think. He put the lever in the lathe & cut it down a couple inches to shorten up the shift pattern a little. It all helped but still doesn't like fast shifts like the ol' rock crushers back in the day.

I'm not real thrilled with the way the new one's shift either, suppose it's all with the rails. G Force does offer some mods and modded pieces but probably a bit spendy for a once a year outing!!!! I still have my Doug Nash and a few spare parts, it's the comp version so it's launch with the clutch and just pull & push the handle after that! Never have met Jeff but if he's a gear banger instead of being a "shiftless person" I like him already!!!!
