I have the same block with forged internals, roller cam and vortec heads. I have found it to be an awesome combination. I am running 3.73 gears on my 8.8. They are not that great for cruising but they do tend to get the car up and moving rapidly. I went with a Holley Sniper Stealth and Hyperspark ignition combo. I had fought timing issues and the advance curve with first a mechanical then a vacuum setup. I have not looked back with the computer controlled timing. My cam is a .550 hydraulic roller.
