Picked up some GT 40 P heads

Well picked up some GT 40 P heads from some one near by . They hot tanked ,checked for cracks . Seats show no wear as do the valves .. Clean and painted don't think I have ever gotten them in this condition before .

Dave thanks now I just need to figure out the rest so they will perform to there max . This is all new to me . Not doing a wild build just something nostalgia and dependable . I will have to get well educated on components that will enhance these heads .

Hey Bobby,
Congrats on the Gt40P's! There's quite a bit of info on what can be done with them at www.sbftech.com if you wanna check it out. On mine they did a basic valve job then added 1.7 roller rockers & valve springs.
It's cool that your making some progress.

Randy I am actually there right now in another window reading between both sites . I have a lot to learn and going to need al lot of info on this build once I figure out some more .

Hey Randy, are you running the 1.7's on the street???? I've used them drag racing on some Windsor's, wondered how much they help an engine in street trim????? Moly rockers, or aluminum????

Dave, to be honest, I don't know what they'll do for the street. I haven't started it yet. My engine is a 302 bored to 306 The rockers & springs were recommended by Jay Allen of Camshaft Innovations who also designed my cam. They are Scorpion 1.72 aluminum roller rockers as shown in the pic below. The spec sheet for the cam is there also.
Jay suggested using a Weiand Xcelerator intake with Holley 4150 carb to produce 320-340hp. It may all be overkill for my application but we'll see when I finally get to fire it up!

cam looks not to far off of the erson cam i putting in the 351 w i am doing now. have to check the numbers on it see if i am all wet

Randyr is this 30 over 302 going into a Fox Body Mustang with a 5-Speed and a Big Rear Gear ? Did Jay also tell you How that Camshaft will work on the Street ? 340 H.P how Much Torque ? One Step Down on the Camshaft may be needed .

The engine is going in a 37 Ford tudor sedan with a 5-speed. At the time Jay designed the cam I was going to use a C4 auto, 9" with 3.0 gears. Then I changed my mind and decided to go with a 5 speed. Will probably change the rear gears to 3.50 or so. I told him at the time I wanted around 300 hp and to be very street driven. This was what he came up with. What do you mean "one step down on the camshaft"?

Didn't mean to hi-jack your thread, Bobby. Hopefully, this will be useful info for you.

Think he's saying use less cam.... Think I'd try the one Jay made up for you. If it was right for the automatic, should work fine with the 5 speed.....

That's what Jay said. It's in there. I'm not going to change it unless it proves to be a problem. I'm sure it'll be quite different from the stock '69 302/2V that I ran in the car for years! Actually this is that same engine, just beefed up a little!

The only thing I see with going over your cam specs, is you will have 2= Over Drive gears... 4th gear for 45-50 mph, and 5th gear for 80+ mph...
