intake gaskets

I own a 62 ford thunderbird with a rear intake leak. Why our they prone to leak from the front or rear. Does anyone no how many man hours our involved in changing them out. What would I suspect to pay for this job to be done. Next time Ill use some RTV and lay a quarter of a inch down. Thanks guys . Larry

Damn intake weighs a ton, its hard to place it down gently so the end seals aren't disturbed and leak. I have been known to clean the area up good, squirt a tube of silicone in my hand, and smear it all over the back of the manifold and block. Crude, but it works, and a whole lot easier that lifting that hunk of iron out of there.

i use the cork gaskets but use gorill snot on the end seals and let them set 24 hours at the same time i use aviation gasket sealer on the block after 24 hours then install manifold.use an engine hoist to install intake.never had any troubles using this method.

intake gasket leaking

Iam sometimes beside myself with this 62 thunderbird. It is leaking in a area right under the 8th chamber of the drivers side manifold and it must go down in about 2 and a half inches under the drivers side block. The back of the intake is perfectly dry. Is this possible at all. Larry
