New blood
Hey everyone. I joined because I think this place will be a nice source of info for my new build. I drive a 1972 240z that isn't enough anymore. I recently purchased two 350 blocks. I plan to put a very mild (if not completely stock) setup into the car and keep the other on a stand and piece meal it into a beast for when i get used to having bottom end power. I anticipate that it'll be a fun project and look forward to keeping you guys posted on it and also drawing from your experience as I'm not at all familiar with most American engines. Happy motoring!

Welcome 240!!! That was a very popular swap a number of years back--Did one for a customer probably 20 years ago complete with a 9" Ford rear end, full cage, and all the goodies... Fairly decent room for everything and it sure does outperform the stock engine!!!

Well, I found a '76 280Z body that will be perfect for the swap. It's in good shape with no rust and it already has the engine and tranny pulled and plenty of suspension upgrades and a decent fuel cell. I just want the car for streetable fun. I have the IRS off of a 280ZX turbo that should hold the power i want in it, so i can avoid the 9" conversion. I'll post pics of the new body as soon as I get it into the storage unit....

Kewl, anxious to see the car! The IRS makes the whole deal even better! Should be a very fun car!

Someone used to make a kit for that with all the mounts, headers, etc. I remember seeing it in Hot Rod several years back.

That would be "Jags That Run" or JTR in the datsun community. A little too expensive for my taste. I may just grab a universal tubular k-member from JEGS and fab up a tranny mount. Should save me a couple hundred. Besides, i'll be starting out with an automatic and ending up with a manual. Forecasting the expensive changeover, I'd like to save money wherever possible. Speaking of which, I need heads and accessories off of a motor with a spun rod or something. Just some cheap stuff I can throw on one of these blocks to get it running...... May try to source that tomorrow. Also, I ended up buying a different body from the guy. Still a good rustless body but with fewer suspension mods and not so nice a fuel cell, but for substantially less dough.

Jags That Run ( http://www.stealthconversions.com/Pa...ts_DAT200.html) makes the install kit for the 350 that I'll be using in my Velo Rossa project.
Johns Cars ( http://www.johnscars.com/zcar/zcar.html) also makes a kit. John was very helpful when I used another of his kits to swap a Buick 3800 V6 into my '79 TR7.
I chose the JTR kit because it positions the engine closer to the firewall, giving the car close to a 50/50 balance. It's also cheaper.
