289/early 302 water pump and timing chain cover on a late 303
I am going to be installing a 302 in a vehicle that I need the lower radiator hose on the pass side like a 289 or pre 70 302,I will most likely be using a later 302 since they can be found running alot easier then the earlier versions so what I need to know is the a balancer made for the later 302 so I can use the earlier timing marker that is on the other side. If I can find a 289 or pre 81 302 it wont be a problem but I doubt I can find one good enough to drop in and go like I want.

I used a water pump for a 69 mustang, I think it was a timing cover from a 78 302, a 3 bolt balancer (28 oz.) and a 28 oz flexplate, and the pulleys were cheap chinese single groove for a 60's Mustang.

Later 302 aka 5.0 Fords after 1981 have a 50 oz balance factor earlier 289-302 SBF's and all 351's are 28 oz balance. To use a short early water pump and early pulley you will need this: Professional Products 80007 6 4 034 SB Ford Harmonic Balancer Damper 50 oz SBF 302 | eBay Note in the picture that this balancer has all 3 different sets of timing marks that Ford used, this is a short balancer which matches the 1969 and earlier pulleys to mate up with the short water pump.I did an article in detail here: sbf/short water pump/pulleys | The H.A.M.B. Thanks guys! It's been a long road. Fun doing finishing work for sure. Getting the dash ready for paint and some interior trim. Have to do some finish work on the aluminum headliner before...
