Is Cold Idle Too fast ?
Here is what my 2bbl carb on the 289 does on a cold crank and I will ask my question at the end, OK?
here is my cold engine - - the outside temp around 80 degrees
pump accelerator and crank - - engine running at 1300 RPMs
allow to idle at 1300 RPMs for approx a minute and then tap accelerator - - - engine drops to 1000 RPMs
allow engine warm to 190 at 1000 RPMs and then tapped accelerator again - - - engine dropped to 750 RPMs and idling smoothly
OK, I have said all of that to ASK this question:
Considering that if I don't crank it often then the lifters drain out and will tap some at cold crank. ??will the 1300RPMs?? damage my engine while pumping up and filling the lifters - - AND - - - should I get the idle lower at initial cold crank? ALSO, is the small phillips head screw behind the electric choke housing the way to change my cold idle???
(footnote: the reason this is so long is because of my limited vocabulary - - - pic worth a 1000 words yanno?).

I saw last night on fb about John. The world sure lost a great one. I'm going to miss his humor, advice, and perspective from another portion of the world. Rest in Peace Johnboy.
