Harmonic damper
I just came up with a new problem (and of course of my making with a bit of help).
When I bought my crate motor it had some sort of an integral serpentine belt drive harmonic balancer for a unknown Ford vehicle. Since I'm not using a serp but v-belts, decided to buy an aftermarket piece from Damper Dudes as Ford pieces just were not easily available. I've been suspicious since I got it, but..... It has markings for TDC, but they for sure aren't where they should be. With the timing set at TDC, the dist set at #1 and a tiny bit more advance makes fire out of the carb. It isn't 180 out but some other number. This wont hold me up - I'll find something that's at least close by pulling a valve cover, finding the real TDC and get the engine running tomorrow, then order up a new Ford damper from Summit which I hope fits my pulley set. I don't need SFI - this engine might see 5K rpm a few times, but wont be raced.Dave W
I am now gone from this forum for now - finally have pulled the plug
