Is this hole at the front of the lifter valley supposed to be there. I only ask because it is very rough around the outside, looks more like it was punched out than drilled. The one on the front (vertical) wall, not the oil drain hole.

Thank you very much. I didn't want to button her up until I was 100% sure that was supposed to be open there. There was a boss in the casting, so I figured it was an engineered hole, but it just looked so rough!

I just noticed that you can see in the picture how some of the lifters are totally in the block, and some (maybe 3) are sitting proud out of the race. Is this normal?

i'd hope they were going up and down or else i'd figure the debris from all that grinding denny did took off some cam lobes :LOL:
hahaha i think it has to do with the tappets aka lifters have a flat bottom hence the name flat tappet cam....(but even then they aren't truly flat seeing that they have a somewhat concave bottom but i guess the people that named it that were not engineers :LOL:
