a 302 can be run with 289 rods, be careful though because it will raise the pistons a little higher, best way to compensate would be using dished pistons, but also higher compression is only good to a certain degree, if you raise your compression too high and then decide some day to add a supercharger.... KABOOM, you will see your supercharger come right through your hood and most likely destroy your block...
