fan advice
ok so i'm putting the finishing touches on my motor 289 in my mustang and i just wanted to make sure my fan clearances are ok, IMO they're fine but i want to make sure with on agreement that it'll be safe before i start her up.... its a flex fan from a 400M 6 blader... sits 1 1/2 inches off of the radiator and clears the shroud on all sides by 1/8th of an inch, is this gonna make it or will it take 1 good bump to chew right through my shroud?
also wilson manifolds just came out with a throttle body injection system that mounts right to your carb manifoldand has its own fuel rail with 8 injectors and hooks up to most efi computers, i was wondering if anyone has used any wilson manifolds products, that v-force system looks sweet and its only $700

That injection looks to be a lot like GM throtle body.
Fan is close at 1/8" can you put a spacer on it and get it closer the the rad. or would that not get you anymore room. All you have to be is 3/4" between fan and rad.Charlie

spacer wont get me anymore shroud clearance...... but i'm just guessing on clearance too, i dont have the tranny hooked up yet so the blades are touching the bottom of the shroud right now, i've got probably a little more than a quarter inch clearance at top though..... maybe i should get a fan thats another inch shorter.... i can always but a brand new one, they're not too expensive.... i just didn't like the old 4 solid blade fan that was stock on the car, really didn't look like it was too efficientjust because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

If you are extremely careful, you can trim the exact same amount off of each fan blade and get the clearance you need. I did it to the aluminum fan I started out with on my '27, made a template and made sure exactly the same amount came off of each blade to retain balance. Worked fine.

sounds like a bit of work... weird part is, its a 17" fan and according to my books a concourse correct hi-po fan is 17"s.... and i do have the hi-po shroud and the right 2 1/4" spacer... not that i care about concourse correct.... or else i wouldn't be converting to a coil-over rear suspension with a 9" and a power rack in the front and doing a 6speed conversion soon and putting in an aftermarket gauge cluster with a tach next to the speedo....Last edited by thesals; 02-09-2007 at 07:58 PM.

yup thats what i'll have to do....hopefully it pans out to be a little better..... i want this baby to be runnin and roarin with no problems.... and with that 6speed and possible EFI, i might get good gas mileage along with power.... plus i cant wait to get rid of the 4 lug axles/spindles and be running 4 wheel disc brakes..... those tiny 6cyl drums dont do too well stopping with a v-8just because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

Changed the shocks yesterday to OEM spec Monroe, they are still gas shocks. Disappointed that the ride is still very firm, it is not as bad but I was hoping for better. Might have something to do...
