If the motor is in the car you need to drop the starter to get a good look at the casting numbers on the block.
I dont need the casting # i need the engine # for registration....
engine number?? good luck on that not all ford motors have an engine serial number... somtimes you'll find one on the flat spot behind the intake manifold right where the bellhousing bolts up.... sometimes on the flat spot below the passenger side head on the front of the block... but most the time its actually a stamp from an engine builder for warranty ID purpose..... the DMV should not need that information to register an older vehicle... they should only be asking for the VIN #
usually the cast number is (like he said on the side of the block c3ae, c6ae etc..)
some times you can find a number on the fromt of the block in front of the head on a flat spot but the cast number is the motor number It identifies the year, type, size and where it was built.
not necessary for dmv title purposes, just the vin, officer inspection, tiltle bond and registration.
acepatt.
If you have the usual Ford with no serial number on the block, around here I just get out the number stamps and put a number on it that matches the serial number on the frame, I think it's like the last 5 or 7 digits are all numbers, then list the casting numbers and date code off the block. Works for Highway Patrol inspection on home built here. Might explain to your inspector that most Ford engines don't have serial numbers and see if this is ok with him....
just so ya know dave in most states that is illegal to stamp your own number on there.. i know its not like anyone is going to know.... but if someone did figure out you did that... it can be a big fine... here in california its a minimum fine of $1500, and possible seizure of your vehicle

yes California lacks common sense... thats why we've got an actor acting like a govener, and other actors down in hollywood acting like the run the nation
