muffler recommendation?

I'm working on a project where i'm putting a 302 into a little British MGB. There's not much room down there so i'm looking for a muffler that'll give me a nice, throaty, sound, but not too loud as the car will be a daily driven car. I don't need cats. One option i've looked at is running from the manifolds to an H pipe, then into 48" lengths of 2 1/2" chambered exhaust on each side. That will give me good ground clearance, but it's a bit pricey. Any alternate recommendations? Note that the gas tank is off center -- shifted right, so the best answer would enable me to either run both tips out the left rear or come together into one pipe that would exit on the left rear.

Motor is Ford 302 crate w/B303 cam, aluminum GT40 heads, Performer RPM, 600CFM carb
custom headers with 1 1/2" tubes into 2 1/2" collectors
Ground clearance is also limited

Who said you need a muffler!Just get you pipes shooting straight out the top.:LOL:

Like was stated above ,super trapps are very compact.They mount at the end of your tubes.They are also tunable,you can get as loud or as quite as possible.If it were me I would leave that until the end of the project then you can get under the car and see what you have room for.Mufflers come in all shapes and sizes.The only one that will no for sure what you need will be you.

Thanks guys. I have the motor & trans in & we're narrowing an IRS currently, that's why i'm looking to see what's out there in the way of mufflers. I want the pipes to exit the rear & the best route is going to be through the IRS above the axles & fairly close to the diff. So far, the only thing I've found that looks like it'll work is the chambered pipes ('60's style), but would like something a bit quieter & hopefully a bit cheaper too which is why i was asking. I'll look up Super Traps & see if they're the ticket.

Stainless Specialties make a nice muffler in many different styles and will make one to your specs. I have ordered many from them and had no problems.

you need a good muffler shop with a pipe bender, they can put it where ever you want it. **)

Flowmaster makes a nice single-chamber race muffler, about a 6" long body. A little (lots) loud for big blocks but it has a nice sound for a small-block.
