    Question Procharger systems

Yesterday, the shop we dynoed the Comet at, sells and installs the Procharger systems. Curious if anyone has experience running one of these systems?? The guy who owns the place showed us some dyno sheets from cars they had installed systems on and had some big numbers on horsepower gains, especially the ones with EFI and the intercooler.......

i have had a lot of experence with vortech , paxton and BDS . these systems can make huge horsepower at little cost .( vs high compression motors )

Yeah, the guy was saying 50% gain with a carb, up to 60% with a programmable EFI system.... Does that seem close to reality??? Huge gains for the $$$$ spent if it is.... Showed me a dyno sheet from a 4.6 DOHC Cobra putting 540 to the ground !!!!! Just curious if I was missing out on that much extra ponies?????

i have had big #'s from a blown bigblocks . you dont have to spend big$ for heads or wild camshafts , because the blower does that for you . money well spent is on the ignition and carb or fi . i had a 505 ci ,brodix heads out of the box , off the shelf roller cam , 871 bds blower and a 4 port mech injection . it made way to much power for the street .this was in a 67 prostreet truck .
we did about 10 mustangs with forced induction they were very driveable , no problems and would run like a scalded dog !

Kewl, thanks for the input, definitely looks like a new consideration for the Ranchero. Hard to believe a dinosaur like me would even consider such new fangled stuff, huh??? It would save me a ton of $$$$$ on parts. Just a good solid bottom end, decent heads and pump the pressure to it??? Appreciate the help... Now back to researching EFI---any input on the Accel units????

Kenny, did you run the intercooler on the Fords????

I'm really considering it. I've had the 6-71 and 871's, these new ones are supposed to have a lot of performance and still very streetable.....

Ok, new info. Got a Ford tech brochure from Prochargers..Here's the hype...Stage II Intercooled system with D-1 12 rib, operates at 15-25 pounds boost, 85%+ gain over carbed engine $4500.00. The last 347 I ran dynoed at 354hp at the wheels. If there claims are true, it would have 654 hp with the blower. Is my math wrong or have I been missing out on some very cost effective horsepower????

you've been missing out... the older style superchargers that most people use are anywhere from 6-12lbs boost.... 25 is a lot of boost but a well built motor can handle it.... i've seen turbo'd v8's handle up to 32lbs boost blowing heads and such

the old style roots blowers take more power to run, because of the big belt, and the size of the rotors and such, a centrifagul supercharger uses a small V belt or part of the serpentine to power a very small vane rotor. I think with centrifagul superchargers ( I know with turbo's u do ) is boost refrence the fuel pump if you use a blow through type system, if you run a draw through, you cannot intercool because the air going to the intercooler will have the fuel mixture in it ), by opening up the vent on the pump, and running a line from it to the preassurized side of the intake, so when your boost comes up, you don't blow the gas back into the tank. if you run 15 PSI of boost and you need 6 PSI of fuel preassure ( or so ) so, you would need 21 PSI of fuel preassure at 15 PSI boost, boost refrencing does this for you. I will be turbocharging my 200 I6 in the Falcon, and should end up with around 170-180 HP at the wheels, about 210 at the flywheel, lot better than 120 HP.
