Hello. My 56 ford has just been sidelined for my wifes Falcon. Story of my life) I am waiting for my(her) Heidts mustang II kit to arrive. My Question: Will I need a rear sump pan to clear the mustang II crossmember? I am installing a 1985 302 w/C4.
If I need a rear sump pan, what do I use? I know that trucks had rear sumps, but is there a better choice? Would a fox body mustang type pan clear? Thanks.
its the same exact oil pan as the original falcon would use... a front sump pan, if its a rear sump 5.0, you'll have to change the pan and the pickup tube... its not really hard to do.... you can even get a flashy chrome one.... i know at napa the painted one costs the same as the chrome.... then again remember... chrome dont get ya home
You'll need a rear sump pan, the factory pickup pan will work fine. Moroso and others also make rear sumps for 302's.
Or you could find one from a junk yard out of a 4x4, those should be rear sump.Quote:

Thanks to all. I found a rear sump pan on ebay. I will go to my local NAPA for the pickup.
Another question: Will a dual master cylinder from a 67 mustang bolt into a 64 falcon? I want to get away from the old jelly jar. Thanks :D
sorry bout my last post i ment rear sump... my brain was functioning backwards from a long day of work.... and i believe that yes that master cylinder swap will work.... since the mustangs and falcons used a lot of the same stuff those years... and they're interchangeabe on mustangs.... even though if you want to go all the way... if the car is an auto, you can swap in a GM master cylinder with power booster.... make those brakes work even better
Thanks for the info. I have thought about power brakes, but I wasnt sure of the pedal throw. Would going to a GM type power brakes require much fab. work?

Great site, thanks. I knew that some stuff interchanged, but I wasnt sure how far that went. When I ordered the Heidts suspension kit, they say the crossmember is different from a mustang. I have to use 2" drop spindles (included) to maintain stock ride height. That makes no sense to me, but I will find out soon. I was hoping for a little rake on the frontend, but we will see. All the pieces parts came today. Looks pretty cool. Im anxious to get started.
Back to the brake thing. I really like the looks of the power brake set up. I dont care for the price tho. Sounds dorky considering I just dropped 1800.00 on suspension. I will end up going that route or something similiar. This will be my wifes daily driver, so pwer brakes are important. I will have to recharge the credit card before I get there.
Mustangplus.com has a C4 mount they say is neccessary for a tranny swap. The car is a 6 cyl. with the fordomatic 2 speed. I cant figure out how it bolts in from the pic. As soon as I can hang the motor in I will see what it will take.
