Let's say I want a 302 with aluminum heads (lower weight required for my application), carburated, short nose water pump, and all the accessories (distrib, alt, ignition, etc.) plus a T5 tranny.
I'm looking for the motor to be around 350hp +/-. It'll be a daily driver.
How much would I need to be prepared to $pend to build or buy a motor (+trans) like that?
If u dont have any of those things to start with. My guess would be around 10 grand, unless u find it good used parts. This is where u hafta do your home work. Unless you are the Fed. Govt.
yeah, ten large is the first # that popped into my head with what you listed.
Check with Ford. 302 to 347 stroker motor with aluminum head Part #M-6007-347 retailes for $$7,000. Rated at 450 hp. Part #M-6007-XB3 aluminum head 302 rated at 345 hp retails at $3200.00, has ignition no intake. First motor has intake, no carb.
I would think a bit of searching could land you a T-5 with bellhousing out of a Mustang for a grand or less.
Thanks Dave, the M-6007-XB3 sounds like what I'm after... adding ~$1500-2k for the carb & accessories would put me at about $5k + $1k for the tranny... that's sounding a bit better than the 10 large above (which is out of my range)...
I had a crate builder spec the following for $5k delivered... what sort of HP/torque would this generate & how would you compare it to the ford racing M-6007-XB3?

Probably about the same on horsepower, hate to guess at HP numbers. A dyno is really the only way to get real numbers, but it should be comparable. If he's a good builder it would make a fine engine. The trick flow heads have some good flow numbers so the horsepower would be up a bit over the Ford heads. If he's a reputable builder and you trust him, I would say go for it.
