Figured It Out!!!
I found out earlier that all of my backfiring and lack of power was because of eight bad exhaust valves, and two pistons with basically no piston rings. (The air from the leakdown, went straight in and right back out). So that brings me to my current question. Does anyone here think it would be possible to put a SBC into this car. I have one that is fairly built up and would like something to use it in. Do you people forsee any major fitment problems? The electrical would be easy considering that my car is carbeurated and not fuel injected. What about motor mounts and headers.....do you think they would fit? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

It's quite possible, I even have a video of one running mid 10's at Sears Point. I would be happy to post it if someone would host it.

Sure it's possible, but when you're done you will have a worthless, bastardized Mustang. Sell it and put your SBC in a Chevy.

It will fit. The 302 is supposedly only a few inches smaller. Make sure the distributor wont hit the firewall and those kind of fitting issues and you should be fine. I don't like the thought of a Chevy in a Ford but I mean, if that is all you can do and afford then it's better than nothing, go for it!www.streamlineautocare.com

There are quite a few people putting late model small block Chevys like the LS1 into Ford F Bodies. THey are lighter than the Camaros and Firebirds and run like scalded dogs. Plus it really pi$$es the Ford guys off which the Chevy guys love. I'm sure you could swap a coventional SBC in one too if that's what you want to do. People have been putting Chevy motors into Fords for more than 50 years, must be a reason.

i was under the impression that the sbc was a little smaller that the 302, but i could be wrong. anyway, it would be cool to see all the ''ford 'till death'' guys whining when you put the chevy in it

Years ago there was a guy in, I think it was New York, put a full-race flattie in a Mustang. Seen a few with Chevys, and one with a Hemi! It's your tin, do what you want with it!

cost wise, i'm not neccisarily sure which will be cheaper.... the motor mounts to bolt the chevy to the ford... the tranny adapter for your ford to a chevy is gonna cost between $200-$400... and i'm sure theres going to be some little odds and ends here... i think the most cost effective method would be to sell the chevy motor and rebuild the 5.0.... but do what you will ... my rambler has a chrysler motor in it

Like i've said before, the 5.0 has a huge parts market out there and it would be almost as cheap, if not cheaper, to just rebuild your 5.0

Sell the MUSTANG!!! Everyone has Mustangs. Be different.
Just messing, but yeah I didn't think about the tranny. Sell the 350 and rebuild the 5.0. 302's are STRONG and good little motors.

well I decided to do another mod to gain max travel of bars past the intended travel points just for that peace of mind. 1/8 inch is to close so now I'll have 1/2" or better. I cut a 3/16" wall...
