i have a friend with a 1990 351 windsor to put in his fox body stang he was recently given a set of heads off of a 302 H.O frm the late 80's this set of heads has a heart shaped combustion chamber anyways the point is can he use these heads on his windsor he has been told that the valves would hit the cylinder walls i was just wondering if this is true and if there would be any other problems with using these heads any input would be greatly appreciated.
i dont know if they will fit, but if he mount them on, with one pair of lifters++ he can turn the crank and then he will experience if they fit or not. Remember to turn the oil pump when the cam is at no lift if he has hydraulic lifters...
They'll work fine. The 351 is the same bore as the 302, no cylinder wall interference.
I put a '69 Hi-po 351W in a Fox Mustang years ago, still runs like a charm. Had to build sub-frame connecters and shock tower braces, though, the torque was buckling the body.
The 302 uses smaller head bolts. The 351 bolts will not fit through the heads, and the 351 head will flow better anyway if you can get good compresson with a flat-top piston.
1/2 inch drill bit. you can drive the 302heads to the 351 bolt pattern. Aftermarket heads will do better that the heart shaped heads.

I do believe those 302 heads are some very good flowing heads and may outperform the 351 heads. GT40 heads from Ford may do even better, but sound like you already have the heads.
Look on the underside of the heads for the casting numbers where they overhang the lifter valley. Heart shaped combustion chambers sound like the dreaded E6SE heads. They are fine for around town stock 302's and that is about it. They have good low speed port velocity but die at higher rpm's. The E7TE heads were stock on the HO Mustangs after the crappy 86 (E6) heads. The 85 (E5) heads sucked too.

hey guys i appreciate the input this question was for me lol i just recently joined the site so i wanted to personally thank you for your input....if i were to give someone the casting numbers on the heads could somebody tell me what they are and if they are even worth putting on my motor because i also have the stock 351 heads but they need some work done to say the least im trying to save some money lol :)
I have a 351 in an 83 mustang. I'm running trick flow heads now but was running early 351 heads before (1970 casting) Early 351 heads have slightly bigger intake ports and valves. I think in 77 or 78 351 heads and 302 heads were the same small ports and valves except 1/2" bolt holes for the 351 and 7/16 for 302.
would the 351 heads be worth fixing, or would you stick with the 302 heads. not really wanting to get aftermarket heads now.....just want the thing to run! And run the best as possible!
Before all the good aftermarket aluminum heads came out, we used to run the early '69 to '71 351 W heads. Due to CRS, I can't remember the casting numbers but I do remember with some mild match porting they performed very well. Maybe some of the Ford guys can help you with the numbers. I might even have a set around someplace if I dig deep enough in the "slightly used parts" pile.... Does anyone else have the casting numbers and specifics on these?????
C9OE and D0OE are the '69 and '70 heads you want.
Yes the C9 and D0 heads are great for a budget build. A little port matching and a tiny bit of work on the exhaust side will make them flow even better. They have the advantage of bigger valves so if you can get by with just rebuilding those heads you will be money ahead.
