help!
I just built a 302 up (world heads, comp cam .512 lift... bla bla bla, victor jr manifold. holly 650 dubble pumper)
and got it runing... if you could call it runing. it takes a little bit of work to get it runing. fires once, twice, shoots some flames out fires again then starts... It runs like crap. backfires out both ends and has no balls whatsoever. messing with the timeing dosen't help anything. lifters are all adjusted to 1/2 past 0 lash. i was hearing a kinda weird wosh noise comeing from the header which concerns me any ides would be helpful.

Ditto, I have done the 180 out thing also. Sounds like it to me also. Easy fix, unless the cam is out 180. I did that once also. The dots line up, but the crank was out one full turn.

i checked the fireing order already and the dist. its starting to look like it is the cam

302 firing order
Sarting in 82 the 5.0 HO had the marine camshaft that has the same firing order as the 351. that was done to keep 7 and 8 from firing one right after another. the std 302 would fire, bang. bang. on the back throw of the crank, stressing it. if your cam is 180 out only 4 cylinders will be right if you are using the wrong firing order for your cam also only 4 clyinders will be right

The cam can't be 180 out. Turn the crank one turn and its the same as if you turn the cam 180. You must be using the wrong firing order. I put a Crane cam in my 351 and it sounded much like you say yours did, till I switched the four wires around.

yeah i called comp cams the other day and they said i have to run the 351 fireing order... and that worked it runs great now:-)
