    Question Mass air sensor versus Map sensor?

     



    I am bought a 5.0 L HO long block that was built to take a blower if I want to add one later . I have not decided on an intake yet. I was looking at the edelbrock fuel injection kit that uses a map sensor, as well as using the stock mustang setup which uses a mass airflow sensor. What is the difference between the two ? Is one better than the other?

    most MAF senors cost a lot and i dont see where they improve performance that much. JMO

    Thanks for the link to the article, it explains a lot. I bought this engine because I may want to add a blower inb a year or two but for now want to run with fuel injection , natuarlly aspirated
    Here are the specs from the engine I bought.

    Fresh built 306 designed for boost. List of mods are as follows: TFS High Port heads, FTI custom blower cam, DSS 8.5:1 Forged Pistons, Hastings Plasma Moly rings, Federal Mogul H series race bearings, ARP hardware and Fel Pro gaskets throughout, Comp cams custom length pushrods, Crane “Blazer” extruded roller rockers, FMS 9 way adjustable chain and gears, Powerbond 50 oz. balancer, Melling Oil pump, new water pump and timing cover, and oil pan tapped on both sides for use with either Vortech or Procharger blowers. All machine work, which includes balancing, was done at Ken’s Kustom Machine shop. Assembly, which included blueprinting, was performed by Ed Hohenberg of Wolf Performance engineering (www.wolfperformance.com).


    Cam specs: 228*/232* @.050; .563/.566 lift; 112 LSA

    The heads are Trickflow Highports, 2.02/1.60 head for a blown 306 setup

    So my question is will the edelbrock kit with the speed density setup work ok with this engine I have ? I am a little concerned there maybe will not be enough manifold vacuum for the computer ? Here is a link to the edelbrock kit I am looking at

    id talk to the people that i was getting it from and tell them what you're gonna run. far as the vac. goes on EFI systems low vac. = richer. im not sure you can buy something now that you can add a lot of blower later,( without buying new stuff). thats a big jump. talk to the man thats gonna build your system. its gonna work great on the reg. motor, the blower is where you need help.

    i dont think he can buy a EFI system and put it on a 400 HP motor now, then next yr. add another 250 HP. im gonna say you cant do that, without spending a lot more money.

    coogan if you try to do this in steps it gonna cost you a lot more in the long run. if you youve built it for a blower, you need a blower. a blower motor without a blower could be like a frog with no rear legs, or maybe a bird with no wings, or.... you get the idea. you may not like it.

    Thanks for the replies. I think in a fiberglass 32 three window this engine will be plenty rank without a blower. I bought it because it gives me the option of adding a blower later. Hotrodding is like a crack habit.....you always want more power. So to start I wanted to go with fuel injection to get the car on the road for the first couple of seasons. I liked the Edelbrock package because it has pretty much everything I need and is rated up to 425 HP. I talked to the tech Dept. at Edelbrock and they claim I could add a centrifugal blower to the system later but would need to change injectors or the chip. So are they just blowing smoke up my ass ?

    Any other companies building fuel injection setups?

    thats probely the truth, that was the extra cost i had in mind. you should have asked him what 8 new inj. and a chip cost. i think you might be supprised.
