Where do you find Engine Block casting numbers?
I have a Ford V-8 in a 1931 Ford Model A and I'm trying to documenet everything on it, so I can make sure I get the right parts.
Where do I find the casting number on the engine block? I know it's a small block - but not sure if it's a 289 or 302.
Thanks
Dave

That's a site that you have to pay a membership. I'm preferrably looking for some "free" info.
My question was also intended to determine where on the motor that the number can be found.
THanks

I recently bought an F 150 and it has a 429 in it. supposedly out of a 68 or 69 t bird.
Where is the block casting #.
And the head casting #?

djpritchard1: Look under the starter. There is a pad on teh block that is lengthwise to the oilpan. Should start with C6OE or D2AE or something similiar. (different codes for different years) Get me those numbers and I may be able to decode it for ya.
froggy: I believe the 429's block Id is in the same place as described above and in the same fashion. On the heads though the casting # is casted on the top of one of the exhaust protrusions where the exh manifold bolts to the head. (or right in that area) Casting numbers will be similiar as listed above.Dan Ouellette

I've been checking in and figured the site had died forever. I checked today and bam it's back on. Awesome. I don't contribute much here, I just come to read and enjoy hotrod builds and good company...
