I dont know which Y you have, but probably a 292. John Mummert has some 312 cranks which can be turned down for the 292, and he has the rods to match. Then get some G or 113 heads with big valves, and an aluminum Blue Thunder intake, and it is a start anyway.
In case my first post was too boring. You can add a mild to wild cam, and roller rockers. Motor can be significantly lightened with aluminum timing cover, aluminum water pump, aluminum thermostat housing, mini high torque starter, aluminum water pump pulley, and if your truck isnt too heavy, an aluminum flywheel. www.ford-y-block.com is a good source.
Jametron, the next time you ask for info on a forum, it is good taste to at least acknowledge receipt of the information.

Rancher, don't get rid of your 272 too soon, at least not until you are sure the 312 has a good crank and block. You can bore the 272 to 312 size and put in a 312 crank, and end up with a stronger motor than the 312 itself.
Thanks.
Saw a really hot 312 at Mid America Shelby meet this past weekend. 12 second runs in a 57 or 58 2 door Ford. Idled like a stocker. amazing.
