Does any one know what the engine code 3E2A is? I need to find out what size motor this is. Its a 302 or a 351 W but not sure.

Where was that number located? A 351 block is physically wider, and the heads have larger bolts than a 302

I'm pretty sure Ford still casted the actual numbers under the starter next to the oil pan rail well into the 90's. Check there. And IIRC it should say "351" in the lifter valley with the intake off if it's a 351W. But they could have deleted that casting later on. Easiest way is to measure the deck width and compare it to a 302. I have a couple torn down 302s to compare to if need be.

That part number on the distributor says "the distributor" is a 1974 Falcon Engine part (D4DE) but obviously not for a Falcon, so "D" must mean a different model than my info shows in the latter 70's. Could be a Granada or LTD.
The 4f14 is the Date code, or date of manufacture, which is June 14 of 1974.
I'm not sure what the 1227 is, I'd have to see it. I think it could be a generic dealership stocking number or a model number as i now remember seeing that number on most all distributors.

But using the distrib.'s part number is a long shot as it could have been switched at any time.

Thanks Don, we've found out from a Mustang place that it is a '74 302.
