You got that right. Oil screen to close to the bottom of the sump in the pan they tell me, and you must keep the oil changed regularly, for which I do on all my vehicles. Every 3000 miles which may be a little excessive. Have'nt had to much experience with the small block Fords. I've got a 60 F100 short bed with a 351 Cleveland that I'm starting on. Thanks again drg84
Thats Not To Excessive I Change Mine Every 1500 And Change Fluid And Filter In My Tranny Every Other Oil Change I Read An Article Once Oil Starts Breaking Down After 1500 Mile And Should Change Oil No Longer Then 3000 Miles But I Figured The Money I Have Invested In My Motors I'm Mot Taking Any Chances And The Trany That Just My Pet Peeve But I Figured A Ounce Of prevention Will Keep Me RollingQuote:

I have had exceptional service out of my trannies. I've got a 78 Maxi custom van with a 400 cid that I punched out 60 over, a little head work and cam. The usual stuff that goes with that like intake, headers and perfomer carb, and posi trac rear end. The only thing that I had done to the tranny was cooler and shift kit. Man you talk about torque, now I have twisted some drive shafts like pretzales. The tranny has 350,000 on it. I change fluids and filters on them every 50,000. My buddys thought I had lost my mind putting an engine like that in a Maxi Van, but I've always wanted to be a little different

As far as automatic transmissions go, theres a bit of a rule. If it has had regular changes since installation, keep at it. However, if it hasnt had a fluid change since it went in,is high mileage, and it is working well, leave it alone. Too many people buy a used car with 75K+ on the origional transmission and then change the fluids only to find the transmission burned out due to a clogged port. As for the reccomended, i believe its every 30K on an auto. As for the 3K miles on the oil change, thats a good plan of attack. 1500 is a little short, but whatever suits you john. I personally reccomend a bottle of Slick50 every other oil change as well. Never had a problem with it on a standard use car. The oil filters, I change them with every oil change. No use picking up particles from the filter with fresh oil:)
I've Never Heard That Rule Before But No Matter Every Car I Buy Get A Service Kit As Far As The Filter I Have Never Change Oil With Out Changing The Filter Too I Don't Know It's Kind Of Automatic Change Oil Change Filter You Mean People Change Oil With Out Changing The Filter That's Just Plain Stupid That Defeat The Purpose Of Changing The Oil You Might As Well Not Even Do It I'm not saying My ways the right way It's just the way I do it you guys have a merry christmas
