is 0.080" too much

i have a '74 360 truck engine i'm rebuilding it is already bored 0.060" over the cylenders are .020 out of round the engine will be going in my pulling truck so it won't be getting too many miles but the ones it gets will be rough ones. it's a 352 block that's all i really know about it at the time. so really all i need to know is can it be bored out to the 0.080 over i'm going to need to straighten the cylenders or do i go with another block? all i need is enough time out of this thing till i get my 429 built. any info will be greatly appreciated

.080 over is a bit high, as the .060 is the standard, but it shouldnt be too bad as long as you have good thick cylinder walls. The pistons and rings will cost a bit more, but that should be about it.

I might be wrong and I can't find the 360 piston compression height in my books. (they don't include truck engines) but I remember that one time seeing in parts books that the 410 Merc motor and the 360 had the same compression height.

Since 410s and 428s had the same compression height you could use standard passenger car 428 pistons for a low compression 360 with a 4.13 bore (.080 over).

The reasoning behind this is that the 360 used the 352 rods, which are longer and make up for the shorter stroke, piston compression height difference.

well overheating really isn't one of my biggest concerns seeing as it will only be running at most 10 minutes thanks for the info i'm worried about busting the block and these factors its not going to be on the street
