    UPDATE on Galaxie and Engine!

     



    Sorry guys for abandoning the board.... I found Ford.FE.com To be quite informational!!!!

    Well, I think you all deserve an update on the motor. The Block indeed is a 390 with a FMX.

    Since my last posting, about 4,500 Went into the motor....not the estimated $1200 I thought.

    Here's my Current Specs:
    390 @ 396 (.030) Engine Specifications:

    Pistons/Crank:
    TRW Flat-top forged Speed Pro pistons @ 9.6:1 @ 72CC
    Speed-Pro Chrome/Moly Rings
    Stock crank .010 under
    Federal Mogul Cam/Main/Rod/Freezeplug Bearings/Caps

    Heads:
    2.02 In/1.55 Exhaust
    C6AE-R (66 Galaxie/Fairlane Engine – Code R)

    I feel this should be my stopping point for now until I get brakes re-worked. I also need to throw in 4.11 Gears in the rear. This car is dying for a paint job, new tires, and rims.

    I figure I'll take her to the Drags this summer after some Streetslicks and gears.......hoping on mid -14's.

    I've also redone the interior. Added 60's mustang bucket seats, new carpet, headliner, ETC

    I posted a picture, it should show up.

    Again, Sorry for my long absence. I re-read some of my earlier postings when I was ''un-experienced'' (still alittle am), and I just laugh at some of the $hit I wrote. My Friend in Texas Weighed his 65 LTD (aluminum Rims, intake) and it came out to 3740LBS. I fiqure mine is in the 3600 LBS.....not so heavy after all is it boys?

    How would this setup hold up guys? Am I on the right track?

    The engine looks good. It should at $4500. That fruit jar master cylinder isn't a good choice for a car that heavy with that much power. You need a double reservoir mc and an upgrade to disc brakes next.
    I had a 65 Olds with a built 454 that took almost a quarter mile to stop from 100 mph. I added discs before I sold it. It made a big difference on a heavy car.

    If it's any comfort, you're not the first, nor will you be the last, to learn this lesson. Once you've done this, you see better why crate engines are a relative bargain, and how experience is paid for. I applaud your humility.

    Engine compartment looks good, although it looks like your distributor is making a bid for freedom.

    One way to make it look better is to get rid of the donkey dick radiator hose and get a smooth moulded one. Also, you should put the radiator overflow drain hose back on instead of the little blue cap. Better yet, install a surge tank so that the coolant that "burps" can thermosyphon back into the radiator when it cools.

    Yeah, I understand what your saying..I'm gonna hook a little hose to a drip down off the radiator.

    I'm just plannin on a really good brake rebuild at the moment.

    If that thing runs half as good as it looks it should be impressive! Great job and congrats on getting there with it. Looks like you did the same thing I did with the cooling on my Cleveland. Keepin' the stock rad wasn't advised, but it don't get hot so I saved some bucks. Good luck with it!

    Love the black and blue combo. If you can keep it cool, and not over-rev it, thats gonna be one hot engine.

    Looking sweet! I hope my 390 will look that good by the end of the summer!!

    I'm a newbie to the big full size fords- i just picked up a full size 67 Merc ragtop- pretty much the same as the galaxie...
    As someone who has just run through a bunch of this stuff- can you give any good links for parts and stuff?

    Are their any MFGs out there that make repop stuff for these cars? Any other good Galaxie sites you have found?

    Who made the headers you are running? Do they fit decent?

    I'm trying to absorb as much info as possible, as i'm getting pumped about this as my new project...

    hey, one way to get better cooling out of that 390, which is one problem they did have, is to upgrade to a copper flex hose, you can get it blue anodized to match your block, they look super for a flex hose and reduce engine tempature, you can get the same for heater hoses as well... other than that, beautiful engine, I'll be hoping to post my 302 and 428 when I'm done building those

    I've owned and built 390's for years and I have never had a problem with overheating, unless you are nuts and try to run a two core radiator with them. And if one over heats with more raditor you've got a bad water pump.

    I was just thinking the same thing about that air cleaner. Get a bigger K&N cleaner, you'll be happier you did.

    The engine looks very nice, I see you're as picky as I when it comes to engine neatness.

    You say you are hoping for mid 14's, I'd say better than that. Come on, shot for at least mid 13's.

    the overheating is not enough to cause problems with the engine, but the water jackets tend to slowly crack from the high tempature, many machinests talk about this problem, it ussually doesn't cause any problems until you goto machine the engine, or if the engine is ran too many miles you'll end up blowing a head gasket or cracking your block
