The 429 and 360 have a different bolt pattern on the block, you did not mention if it was a manual or automatic but if its a manual you will need to get a bellhousing and probably flywheel too. If you have a automatic any trans from a 351-M 400 429 and 460 will work and you will probably need different motor mounts also. Jeff
THE TRANNY IS AN AUTOMATIC SO MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THE TRANNY THAT I HAVE WILL NOT FIT IS THIS CORRECT?
That is correct your trans will not fit the 429,any C-6 from the mentioned motors will work.
IS THERE AN ADAPTER THAT WILL CONVERT THE BELL HOUSINGS OR WHICH ENGINES WILL WORK WITH THIS TRANNY IT ONLY HAS ABOUT 8,000 MILES ON A REBUILD AND I HATE TO HAVE TO GET A NEW ONE THANK YOU.
I know adapters are made to put a smallblock trans to a 429/460 but I dont think one is made to install a FE trans to the 429/460 motors. If you were closer to ohio I would find a trans to trade you for it as I have a 70 F250 with a 360 that could use a fresher trans. Jeff
If you want to keep the trans look for a 390,410 or 428,its the same basic block as the 360 but has more power. The 410 is a big merc motor used in 1967 and 68 and is basicly a smaller bore 428,the 360 is tired in my 70 and I am thinking about going to a 302,351-w or a 300 six and AOD to try to get some gas mileage.
Jeff, thank you for all your time it's been a big help Alan.
will a windsor bolt to the tranny that I have because I know where one of those is also or would it be better to stay with the 429 because its in an old car it runs and its only $ 200 for the entire thing. Also would the tranny out of that fit in my truck?
What year is your truck and what year is the vehicle the 429 is from,a winsdor will not bolt to that trans either. If the trans is good that is behind the 429 use it as its most probably a C-6,the only thing you will need to change on the car trans is the shift lever that comes out of the trans. On ford trans they used a different shift arm for each application and all you need to do to change is drop the valve body to get to the big nut that holds it it and if you dont the shift linkage wont hook to it. If your truck is a 67 to 72 you will have to go to a one piece drive shaft as I think they all had 2 piece shafts,if its a 73 to 79 and it has a 2 piece some had the one piece shafts. If you can find a 390 it would be the easiest swap as all you would have to do is just change the motors, let me know the years of the vehicles as I can advise better. Jeff
the 429 will bolt right to your motor mounts by using your fe motor mounts bolted diagnally straight to the 429 block be sure to get them on the right side as the stud is offset if you're using the stock exhast manifolds the upper corner of the mount pad has to be trimmed to clear with headers it doesn't
hey, If u wanna sell the 360 block let me know.. im looking for one. Also i need a c-6 to go with it.. im in san bernardino.
