352 FE performance questions?

I have a 67 Ford F-100 pickup with a rebuilt 352 with only 600 miles on it. When I had it rebuilt they used a 270H comp cam, new eldebrock 4 Barrel intake, headers, and I recently intalled the powerjection III EFI. I am looking for more performance and would like to know if and how much performance gains I would get by having the heads ported. It runs great compared to what it did prior to the rebuild, I would like to get as much as possible without chaning it over to a 390. Any help is appreciated.

For what you would gain in porting your stock heads,you would be ahead sqeezing the wallet for the Edelbrock FE heads,also a pretty sizeable weight savings.Unless someone has worked on your heads previously, back in '67 they didn't have hardened valve seats to run unleaded.

I was wanting to go with those heads, but I was told that the valves could potentially hit the cylinder walls since it is a 352 and was only bored .030, putting it around 4.031. The 360 and 390 block are 4.052 so even with mine being bored the heads will not work. I did have my stock head reworked on the rebuild so they already have hardend seats. I had the rebuild done a couple years ago and did not know about the differences in the bore, I thought they were the same. I would rather go with the edelbrock heads, but it kinda looks like I will not be albe to, that is why I was going to have them ported. Is there any thing else I could do? I have put so much money into what I have I would like to make it work some how.

You could get a set of 352 Hi-Po heads.

I would go to the Edelbrock website and contact the techline to verify if they would work,after speaking with a Tech let us know the results.:confused:

I can't remember for sure but I think with stock 352 HP parts they were 360 horse.

67FordKC; My book does not show a 352 made in 1967.
It only shows the 352 going too 1966.
1964 had the highest compression rating at 10.5 to 1
and that was on a factory 4V.
I don't show any HP rating for the 352's in my book which is odd.
I am guessing but I would say that it is around 300 HP.
A 390 with 10.5 to 1 is at 315 HP. just to give you an idea.
I hope this helps if you know what your compression was we could get a better idea.

The engine is the original engine in a 1967 Ford F-100 pickup, this was the last year that I put the 352 in the pickup. In 68 they used the 360. As far as getting heads from Edelbrock I had called them around a year ago to ask this very question. I did call them back to be sure and they repeated the same answer as before. The mininum bore needed is 4.050 and mine is at 4.030 so they will not work. If I had known this I would have it bored to the another .020, but to late for that. Does any one know where I can get 352 HI-PO heads? Or would having my current heads ported be the same? Thanks for your help and suggestions!!!

Do you know what your compression is???
And did you look at you engine ID numbers
or know what heads you have?
Pull a valve cover off and look for some
numbers that start with the letter C
and give them to us. also if you look
above the starter I believe on that will
be your engine ID numbers which also start
with a C. You may already have a good set
of heads, don't change anything till you can ID
what you have.

The compression is 8.9 to 1 with C7AE-A heads ( found the casting numbers on the heads). My parents bought this truck new so I am sure of what engine is in it.

if i amember crectly my r code 428 stang had "352 " embossed on the block .. aint all fe`s cast the same

most of the fes have 352 cast into the front of the block,my 428 had 352 cast on the vfront.ford made some hipo 352 starting in 58,they had solid lifters and adjustable rockers they ran 300 hp -360 hp. there was one 352 made in 65 it was made for a dealer in st louis.al the cars were 65 galaxie 500s xl,s,black with black interior,xl interior with 4 buckets and full length consold,25 of the cars were 4-speeds the other25 auto.the engine was a hogh pogh of ford parts,3x2 intake,chrome valve covers.factory headers(cast iron) hurst shifter,gold pinstripping,my neighbor had one it was one sweet car.its the only one i have ever seen.if you have a truck you could have a 360 or 361 fe.when ever a fe ended with a 1 it means its a heavy duty engine.

I am just telling you what my book is saying, I know that alot of the time the factory's would take a engine that was built the year before and stick it in a new car on the line.
But f you are seeing the C7, I was wondering if in fact you don't have a 390,410,427 or a 428 block in there. Which all of these were made in 1967.
Like Hotrodstude said his 428 had the 352 cast in the front of his block.
If the block is a 390,410,427 or 428 you could drop a bigger crank in it with no problem.
if it's a true 352 you can't because he crank will hit some stuff in the swing.
It says some of the high performance heads won't fit because the tops of the cylinders will have to be notched to far out to allow for the bigger valves.
Though the bore spacing and all is the same.
In any case you sure have me curious, I hope some one else chims in that has some first hand knowledge. I am hoping you actully have a 428 block with a 352 crank and rods in which case you could use the high performance heads. And yes the crank would fit in to all the engines above mentioned. They are all the same dia. and bore spacing.

ford did make some heads the call 390 gt heads the were on mostly 390 fairlane gts 65-66

1967 was a one off year for the F-100, I have one. They came stock with the 352 and cruiseomatic MX, or the 300 big inline 6 with 3 on the tree. I've seen one that was special order with 428 and 3spd..but that was a special order.
Porting and polishing valves is never a bad thing as long as you dont overdo it, I did it on my old 8BA flathead and it made alot of difference. I think as far as heads go, your stuck with stock unless you do another bore and go the edelbrock route.

You didnt mention ignition, I trust you arent still running points and have upgraded to HEI??
