Hello all! I just acquired a 1966 428FE engine for my 68 mustang project. I have heard that the stroker kits will drop right in and that there are no modifications needed to the block. However, i recently talked to a friend who attemped to use a 462 stroker kit a few years ago and he said that the crank hit the block.
So, does anybody have experience with building a 462 stroker that could confirm if clearancing is or is not necessary?

The current stroker kits are a drop in on a factory block. We've done literally dozens of them - nine in process at this moment...
Barry R, I'm interested in hearing what you know, as well. I've got a '66 428 complete with original CA smog and it runs poorly with the lower octane fuel. Looking for advice on whether to build it or maintain the integrity of the original set up if it is uncommon.
The 428 was never "common" but was installed in quite a few Galaxies and T-Birds. It also saw service as an industrial/irrigation engine. I don't know about the Cali emissions thing - not my bag - but I generally hot rod everything I get my hands on.
Unless its a virgin "one of a couple dozen" perfect numbers matching car I'd be spinnin' wrenches on anything. The are just cars - not Michaelangelo's...
We did a hydr roller 462 a bit back that went into a '66 7 Litre Galaxie. Made about 470HP and 500+ TQ all in before 6000. Seemed like a great combo for the big car.
Why bother? They run good as 428's if built right. Calverts 68 Mustang SS car

Excellent points by both of you. Now, not being a rich guy, what's the best build for mine? It's in a heavy car and I drive it daily. PO did a great job on the body/paint and I've done everything mechanically except the suspension and engine. Everything else is done. I'd have to start compiling parts to build it once I save for them. Ideas?
