    FE Camaro ???

     



    I see all these older fords with chevy power. I was wondering how hard it would be to put an FE in an 89 Camaro. Just an idea that popped into my head thought I would throw it out there for opinions? I might be crazy but that has never stopped me before.

    I believe it would be a waste of an FE !

    I believe you would ruin the resale value of the car, and also turn off both the Ford and Chevy fans.

    Camaros appeal to muscle car fans, who generally are brand-loyal. Stepping up to a bigblock Chevy would enhance the appeal.

    At the risk of making Ford fans commit suicide .....the staggered valve BBC had a horsepower advantage over the BBF. :-)

    ....unless of course you mean a cammer or shotgun motor. If it were a cammer, the motor alone would be worth more than the whole Camaro!

    an sohc 427 in a 69 , use the chevy 427 emblems, hmm to only be rich think of the possibilities,

    Great minds think alike.

    I recently got involved in a Falcon panel project. He had a fresh 406 Chevy smallblock that he planned to use, so I suggested he order some Ford T-bird 406 emblems for it, and put the teardrop hood bubble on.... WHICH HE DID! :-)~

    If it was a first or early second generation I would say go for it but those years are not worth the gas to haul them to the crusher,definately a waste of a good FE for that car.

    I say you have that totally backwards! And obviously don't know anything about 1st gen Camaro's! Or you have had you butt kicked by at least one!

    Personally I strongly dislike seeing SBC in Fords and always said I would put a FE in a 57 Belair, Camero is even better, the universe is out of balance and needs set right.lol There are way too many 69 Cameros so why not use one of them. (now a 70 1/2 is a whole different story). Don't forget to paint it hugger orange and put Z28 emblems on it.

    Maybe things are different up your way, but down here 1989 Camaros just arent that desirable. And the old FE engines are.

    I appreciate that you were just stirring coz people dont own up to owning 89 Camaros

    I wonder if the Ford guys would buy a Mustang with a 396??? If the answer is no, then you understand why a Camaro with a 428 would be undesireable to most Camaro buyers.

    As far as the street rods, I am not as old as some enthusiasts, but things were different in the early "post flathead" days. The "littleblock" Chevy was like the flathead in one sense....racers developed parts for it, and they sold in big numbers, so costs came down. I think the saying back then was that speed parts were always made for the Chevy first.

    The fifties Ford and Chrysler engines(other than the Hemi) were not very good as a basis for horsepower. Ford finally put a blower on the 312 to PUSH the air through it! The Hemi was mostly developed for use with blowers for all out racing, and Studebaker never really broke into the market.

    Rodders were not as "brand loyal", prior to the sixties muscle car wars, so they built what was less expensive to hop up like the Chevy. Other popular choices were bigger inch motors (over 300 inches), like Oldsmobile, Cadillac, and maybe the Buick.

    It's only today that the Ford guys are putting Ford power into more rods, but the brand loyalty and current availability of good power and reliability make that popular now.

    back in the 80's i had a customer who wanted me to put a 460 in a camero.it was easier than it sounds,used a modified powerglide. lost track after i completed the job.so if you ever see a ford blue camero running around check it out,it just might be the car i built.

    Just the visualization of an FE/Camaro floatin' around in my mind makes me want to retch.
