Chappy: 1961 and 1962 there was a special 390 high performance head which was the same as the special 352 heads that were made. I don't think your going to have any luck finding the 352 head cause they were so rare, so you may want to try the 390 high performance head from 1961 and1962. You don't want to go with a 406 head or the 428 head because, you have to cut the cylinder bores for valve clearence. So the code number that you would want would be a C which is the decade, and this stands for the 60's. The next numbers you would want is 0 or 1 or 2. So it would start out like this C0 or C1 or C2. Now you have to make sure that these are 390 heads for a 406/427/428 the valve are to big and will not work. If you have any questions you should refer to the book
Ford Performance (the revised edition). This is the best book I can tell you to get and this will help you out with any other problems you may have, its only about $20.00. I hope this helps you some.

PS. The only difference is the special 390 heads is more compression or smaller chamber sizes in the head. One of the port sizes is a little bit higher, a 2.34 instead of a 1.93. So your gonna need to check your valve to piston clearence, especially with a larger cam shaft.Last edited by vara4; 01-17-2004 at 07:21 PM.
