Rollerrockers, duh.

Hi all.
Im rebuilding my 69 390 with a +.030 bore and 10/10 turned crank 10:1 hypertech flattops compcams 265DEH Weiand action+ intake Holley670 carb Sanderson shortie headers . but when it comes to the valvetrain Im lost:whacked:

I´ll run stock C8AE-H heads this year,hoping budget allowes alu heads next year, I been lookin at DOVE rollerrocker assemblys, will I need the kit with endstands with a springpressure of 316lbs? I know, better to be safe than sorry...

Guess I could do with stock adjustable rockers but i like the idea of less friction wich in the end gives more oumph when I occationally try to show off to the youngones, maybe the answer is already given here **) but I shure would appreciate some help to straighten things here, what are you guys runnin?

With those springs you'd be borderline without the good stands....but if you're even considering the aluminum heads and some other go fast goodies I'd say do it now and go with the good stands on the heads then when you upgrade, you've already got some of the expense out of the way....

Thank You Dave, it´s always good to hear a second opinion, I´m leanin against DOVE s assembly but I guess COMP or HarlandSharp is equal, whats your experience

I've used the Harland Sharp, not on a real hi-performance FE, but they did work quite well, never broke anything anyway....

Depending on the performance level you're shooting for, might also want to take a look at the Blue Thunder heads. They have some rockers that are for their heads, IMO the best setup on the market.... Another good source is good ol' Barry at Survival Motorsports, some really first rate FE goodies and probably one of the best FE shops around.....

Get the Erson rocker set up!!!!

Never have ran the Erson's, but if Jerry says they're better that would be good enough for me......

I would do some research before wading in. Maybe go over to the FE forums and lurk a little. The reason I say this is because I remember reading some fitment problems with the roller rockers on the Edelbrock heads and if you are planning on possibly using them at some point you might want to know what fits what. Those C8 heads do not have hard seats either. As far as I know the D2 heads had them first.

The Ersons when used on the Edel heads with ARP head bolts do need a slot milled into the rocker housing to clear the heads of the bolts. With the other stock style shaft mounted rockers it's best to use the ARP rocker stud kit with the Edels. The D2-AA heads were the only FE head to have induction hardened ex seats. But they are the same otherwise as the earlier C8-H's.

For all I knowof difference betw. Edels and stock heads is you better use studs at the rockerstands on alu heads or you might strip the threads,also you better use stands that fits your heads if you run lowriser or highrise heads, is there more?:confused:
I got hard seats installed in my C8ts so theyre OK. in that matter.

How come I can get a Complete set of Rollerrockers including shafts, stands with end stands ,spacers ,studs and adjusters, and lube. for $499.96
That is Crane Sportsman Series i found them on Epay,Thats 300 bucks less than Dove Comp and Erson,
Crane aint crap what I know, unless ping & pong makes their stuff nowadays? Should someone talk me out of gettin them? This 390 aint goin over 6000 rpm

Those Crane rollers have had MANY issues. Shafts out of round, geometry,spacing and pushrod issues. For a while they yanked them off the market to supposedly redesign the whole deal. Not for me thanks. Now I've run both the Isky and Crane ductile iron adj rockers for years without issue. And they are still going strong. I can't afford $500-800 for the rollers. And Erson just had a price increase I hear.

Yep these parts are far from cheap. So you really need to make the right purchase. By all means look into them and maybe contact Crane. They were well aware of the problems and were supposed to correct them. If that's happened I don't know. Or if the sets your looking at are old or new. But for that kind of money I'd want to hear some answers. Good luck with the parts search. I'd love to have a set of Erson's myself. But I still have a long list of parts before them some $3k later. LOL it's only money right???

Hey pops I've got a set of doves adj roller rockers with the fancy end stands and everything. Picked them up for 750 off dennis c. but times are rough and I'd lettem go for 500. They've never been used, nib.

I got the Erson combo so Im good, Soldiers-rod at 500 that Dove setup shouldnt last overnight,already gone right? Thanks for asking thou/Pops
