Engine Choice 429-1970 or 460-1973
Paul
Im wondering what engine is the best choice if I must take the 460 back out of the truck anyhow???? Would I be better off with the earlier 429 dove block .030 over with one rod bent and the dove heads just redone maybe look for a replacement rod and new piston on the internet. or go with the 460 that is .040 over with the crank messed up????/ maybe search for a crank on e bay or????? Right now it sounds to me like I would not make much of a difference by putting the cam and lifters out of the 429 into the 460 to match the 429 crank I put in it.Also I learned the hard way that yes you need to study and learn about any engine before trying what I did.So if I must I will start over. Why on gods big green golf ball would you put either of those engines in in that condition? Would you put a cast on a leg while it still looked like a question mark? If your looking to go cheap replace the bad rod, wont be hard to find. Shoot, replace all 8.
...Looking on ebay for you already, and I see some yahoo wants over 2 grand for an oil pan. If you meet him club him to death for me will you? But heres the link you want:

Ford is famous for putting non matching rods in, diff years n codes or whatever so this might work for you.
Or buy a whole new setup

Well anything original BOSS 429 related is big bucks these days. And for the guys restoring those cars a drop in a big bucket. I sure hope whoever drops $2k on a pan makes sure it's the real deal. Recently there was a 428CJ block....yep just the block....that sold for $5999! 428CJ parts are crazy too!!Last edited by FFR428; 10-30-2007 at 04:01 PM.
I won't agree or disagree on your opinion of comp cams, but when I put a new cam in the 350 in my 76 Vette I went with Howard's and have not been disappointed. With the junk coming out of China these...
