How to Adjust Valves on FE 390

I just put a new elel. intake on my FE 390 and I wanted to know how to readjust my valves

well everything is exactly the same i never took anything off besides the intake. how do i torque them and in what pattern and at how much?

does it matter what pos. there in? #1 cyl tdc or what?

Final torque spec on the rocker stands is 40-45 ft lbs. I slowly tighten them in the 1-2-3-4 order. Also be sure the necked down bolt on each side goes in the oil feed to head bolt hole. This is the bolt hole that has a dish and you'll see the oil feed hole inside. If you don't use the correct bolt there you will not feed oil to the rockers. So out of 8 rocker bolts 2 are necked down. 1 for each oil feed hole on the heads You might want to give the shafts and stands the once over. Sludge can buildup inside the rocker shafts and clog the oil holes. I also take this time to mic the ID of the rocker arms and OD of the shafts and check for wear. I check the springs and waver washers to be sure they have enough tension. Badly worn rockers can lead to over oiling in the heads. Also use the drainback shields that go under the rocker assy. For the record the aluminum rocker stands can be used in any order on the assy. They were all cast the same and all have the same opening to be used in the oil feed opening or other. The slotted hipo cast iron stands also have the same oil slot on the bottom of each stand. For the longest time I thought the aluminum and iron stands had a specific stand for the oil feed hole. But after comparing many sets to each other the oem cast and steel and stock cast aftermarket's were all the same.

well now it comes down to the vac.lines everything is so different where does everything go. i have two lines from my vac. advance. two from trans. does the two from vac. advance go in the front of my edel. carb an the two from trans. go into intake? or does it matter?

since you have a dual feed vac advance( one side is for advancing and one is for retarding) i would reccomend using a T to connect the two lines together and then run the other one to the full vacuum side of the carb.... the pcv should hook to the back of the carb.... if you dont have a connector for the back of the carb which often edelbrock forgets to include them, you need a 3/8s npt threaded house connector.... and use manifold vacuum for the trans, your old manifold should have had a vacuum connector that screws in at the back, just take that out and screw it into your edelbrock manifold, should fit no problem.....

well i just hooked the two vac. advance lines into the front of the carb. the two from the trans to the intake. where does the one from my master cylinder drum go to and i thought the pcv goes in the front of the carb. i dont currently have a heater core hooked up so i ran a hose straight from the waterpump into the intake is this ok? also the truck dosent really want to idle what could cause this? i have also never changed the filter on my fuel pump could this be my prob?

emissions are not a prob. in oregon but hook inner one up to the back of the manifold and outer to the carb? do u know y it dosent want to idle?

where does my pcv valve pluginto besides valve cover of course? and my brake vent i think it is

well could u tell me if putting the hose from the water pump to the heater core straight into the intake be a prob?

and does the inner vac line go to the back of the intake and outer to carb?

hey if the truck isent idleing very well then i would check for a vacum leak then if that dont work look at ur fuel presure it should be around 6-7 PSI, not changing ur fuel filter would have a big differance in how the truck would run.
