    428 or 460?

Well I posted this last night but I went to submit and the server went down... So here it is again but all details left out, etc. I have a chance to buy a full 67 Ranger truck in great shape with only 2000 miles on it from my local rod club. It has a 428 and C6 in it. The tranny has a 2000 stall, shift kit, built up pretty strongly, etc. Motor has all new parts like water pumps, oil pump, motor mounts, etc etc. The list goes on with what is done. Ok well I am wanting to pro street my 66 and take it off the road but then I will not have a daily driver anymore. So this is what I am thinking, if I do not get this 1929 Ford that you guys know I am looking into then I am thinking of getting that truck and make that Ranger just for racing. No insurance to pay, no worrying to keep it on the road all the time, nothing.
Ok I can do that and get it for a great price (cheaper than building a FE and C6 for my 66) or I can buy a 460 and C6 from a guy for 250 bucks if he still has it and rebuild both and put it in the 66 and keep the 66 on the road. Hard to explain this here but anyways, here is an update on that 29 too for those of you following along before.... I cannot get the guy to meet me to see the car. Not sure why, but he is gone all the time for work, etc and I am tired of waiting. I feel like it's all BS and I am waiting for nothing so I am going to straighten that out with him and ask him if he is really serious about selling and if not then to tell me so I can move on.
Well thanks a lot for any info on this guys and sorry for the long post.

Update on this now... The engine is a 429 not a 428 I am sorry. I thought it was a 429 but wasn't sure. What are the pros and cons of a 429 and can I make reasonal power compared to a 460 with it? I have driven in this truck before and everything. It runs really good, all new parts, etc. The guy can roll doing 15-20 and punch the gas and it will still spin the tires. He doesn't have a bunch of hi po parts or manifold on it either, just pretty much built a little more than stock.

THE BOOK I HAVE CLAIMS THAT A ( 1969 ) 4 BARREL CARBERATED 429 CAN HAVE 340 HORSE AND 480 FOOT POUNDS OF TORQUE JUST IN STOCK DRESS. SHORTER STROKE THEN THE 460 SO IT WILL ALLOW IT TO CLIMB THE RPM BAND FASTER. I LOVE THE OL FE MOTOR BUT AFTER TALKING TO PAUL KANE I AM REALLY IMPRESSED WITH THE POSSIBILITIES OF THE 429/460 MOTORS(1969) AND OLDER ANY WAYS IT ALL SOUNDS GOOD SCS

Thanks a lot for the info! Yeah the guy said his is a 1970 and the 69 and 70 were the best of them all because the later ones had lower compression and not built as well with not as good of heads on them.

Sounds like a nice truck. You'll make some good power from the 429. I have the same HP and TQ listings. 320hp and 450 tq with a 2v and 345 hp and 460 tq with the 4v. Performance parts are less for the 385 series than the FE that's for sure! You'll get more bang for the buck for sure! Keep us posted how things turn out and good luck!

Sweet, sounds good. The only problem I am running into is my stepmother letting me get it. I have too many hot rods and she said the place it looking like a junk yard. It would be just a race truck though that's for sure.

My Mom, who passed away years ago, had a great answer when the neighbors mentioned we had a lot of old cars in our yard. SHe would say " Yes, but I know where he is at night." With all the trouble kids (and adults) can get into these days, spending your time creating something out of metal is a much better pursuit. Remind your Step Mom of that.

Oh yeah, she knows that for sure. When I had all the guys in my club over helping me out on my 66 she said that. She was like "well I appreciate you guys helping him (me) out, this keeps him out of trouble even though it takes all his money and makes my yard look like a junk yard." I thought about that... It's true actually. All I do is think and work on my trucks and car and I put all my money into them (not drugs) and I don't do stupid crap because I know if I do then I will have to sell my vehicles and move out of the parents house and then I am screwed. While all my other freinds are out drinking, getting high and having fun at party's I am here at home working on something.
