connecting rods
eh...
hi there!
okay, I got some connecting rod issues here...
First of all, my engine seems to have had a rebuild in the early eighties (aside from the obvious tag, stating this, the pistons have a cast-in datecode, mentioning '84)
I now have three different connectingrod numbers: c3ae-c/ c6ae-c/ c7ae-b
The engine ran good before I pulled it apart, so this seems to me as if these rods are just fine for re-use (after checking)
Does anybody have any thoughts or doubts about this issue here?
Is there anything I should check in particular, regarding strength? (any differences between the three?)
I'm not going to build a high revvin' engine, so H-beam seems a little overdone, but probably will make more torque (larger stroke).
This considdering, do I need to get a matching set, or check and/or rebuild these?(keep in mind that the whole rotating assembly will be balanced anyway!)
thanx,
tom

I would weight-match the big and little ends, hone the big ends to size and run 'em.

The rods you have are esentially the same, even though they carry different casting numbers( Ford is good for that), I'm running the same rods in my 502 HP 428CJ (6yrs now) with no trouble. I would have them all weight matched to the lightest rod, and resized with new ARP rod bolts. good luck!

The ARP rodbolts are on the way, just wanted to know if these rods were worth re-using.
So there's no problem in the fact that they are of different castingseries, as long as the essential (intended) strenght is the same?

Your fine. As 70snake stated they are all the same castings just different numbers. BUT the C3-C and C7-B came with both big and small rod bolts. I'm not exactly sure about the C6's but the rod weight is all the same on all 3 at 761-774 grams each. I'd just double check that all the rod bolts are the same size if you have not already.....G.
