My buddy has a 429. dove-c on heads and intake. Its fresh, 1k miles on all new re-build. Will these heads support port and polish work? and what comp ratio were they with stock pistons? Should I open my wallet and by this one to work with on my blower truck build?
I haven't seen Paul Kane on here lately, maybe I just missed his posts. Paul is an expert when it comes to BBF engines. Some of our other guys will know about these too. I think the CR might be a little high for a blower though, these were generally in the 10-10.5 range, as I recall. But they sure are darned good engines.

did a set cut them out for bigger valves and built a 554 cid and used in a hill and hole mud running class . abit small for the engine some would think. but theres not much that can keep up with it i have been told . i done some of the dove c heads. with the 429 cast stock new piston with a dish i would not use less for show very . very low boost and i still would not do it every one wants more then before you know it the pistons will be seting in the oil pan or on the ground . you looking at a JE piston or what ever you like in a forged piston .i think if your looking at a flat top with a 429 crank that it would be way to hi for a blower or a 460 crank and a inverted dome piston you can find one in shelf built so other then that your looking at a custom piston any way you go your looking at a invertred dome pistons on boost
Is there a kit out there that someone has had personal experience with? Or can I put a 460 crank in it to get my c.i's up? Thanks fellas.
yep i build my own kits when i buy the parts . so i buy what i want to use for parts. the last 429 i got out to 545 not very hard
D0VE heads are really nice factory iron passneger car heads. Once ported, they have been known to support over 700 hp in naturally aspirated combos and well into the 4-figures (1500+ hp) in blown alcohol combos.Quote:

Without knowing what you intend for a blower build (displacement, pump gas or race gas, street or track only, etc), I can't make a recommendation one way or the other...but it is possible to make the D0VE head work well in some blower builds.

crap every time that happens I spend a bus load! I want to be in the low ten class when I do hit the strip. Maybe 871 cfm on the blower? And a 300 shot? But must be streetable, and run on super pump. Will run two tanks on rig, one pump, and one trick. With a simple switch to change over. Does this sound possible with stock crank and worked over heads? Merry christmas, I hope everybody gets more h.p.....
A blown 8-71 460 on pump gas could easily run in the 10-second class without the nitrous oxide. The ported D0VE heads could support that no problem, and OEM cast crankshaft could support that no problem. A well planned combo will be important for the longeveity and reliability of the engine. I suggest less than a 9:1 compression ratio, which may require a custom piston....but then again all blown engines are custom builds.Quote:

I've been busy tryin to get the final tuning finished on the 400 in my 4x4. Bought one of those hei distributors for it, and ditched the stock ford one. Are you savy with hyper pistons? They said to run the timing 3deg off stock. Is that in the dist. setting, or offset in the cam gear? Thanks fellas....
My 400 build years ago, 4bbl, cam n intake, and distributor, the machinist said to retard the timing with multiple keyway timing set- I used Edelbrocks. Hope this helps. (4* retard)
