well after a long wait i finally got the studs out of the cylinder head ready to put the manifolds on but there was a problem. where the studs were, the holes all need re tapping as it seems that the previous owner broke the studs off inside the head and redrilled them but not correctly. im obviousley going to have to take the head off. should i bother with this head or get a new one ? how much do they cost these days - casting number is C8VE.

they look pretty cool - but as the holes arnt going into the head straight, would these make the hole straight or would the bolts still go in at an angle???

I heard about some new replacement type studs which are lockable ( they are in two pieces, the center part locks the stud in ) they are made for just such a problem.
they are advertising them at lordco auto parts,,,i'll see if i can dig up some more info for you.

C8VE heads are well worth the the cost of a thread repair. The repair is easy, given the proper tools. IF its a big job, then still, there is nothing that a machine shop cannot do.

Pull the head and get the thread repaired.

Paul's right, you should pull the head and take it to a machine shop so they can drill it straight. Helicoils are the ticket, but they're only as good as the hole they go into. If they are a little off, you can drill the holes in the manifold bigger to make them work.

Is there anywhere that you can get them done there? if not maybe someone here in the u.s. can be like a go between for you with a machine shop you know? i mean it will be expensive for shipping, i personally dont want anything but for you to get your ride running again, but im trying to help the best i can, id do it for you if you wanted. The reason i ask is i know a few really good machine shops. i can get you some phone numbers if needed let me know whats up, Joe
