Is This A Good Deal?
I want you all to check this out. Is this a good deal? I can't buy it because it's too far away, and I'm not sure if it will work in my car. Will a Chevy 216 from a 1948 Chevy truck work in my 1948 Chevy Stylemaster? Is it the same motor that was in the 48 Stylemaster? (Same size, power, etc.)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1I have a 1948 Chevrolet Stylemaster and a 1978 Chevrolet Camaro, I had a 1985 Chevrolet Corvette. Im 18.

The 216 Chevy six is what it is - regardless of vehicle. It was built from 1937 to 1953. The later 1955-1963 235 is a better motor, and is much easier to find. The 235 is a better deal in the long run because of the bearings and oiling system. The 216's had scoop type oiling and babbit bearings. The 235 has a pressurized oiling system. The stovebolt forum has a lot of info.

Back in the day, I put a 235 Corvette 6 in my '52 Chevy, and it made a world of difference.Jack

If it's complete and runs, it's probably a good deal. You should check the compression, though.Jack

The pressure that a cylinder produces as the piston compresses the fuel and air is the "compression". As a motor wears out, or is damaged this number goes down....sometimes to zero. People can check this number without taking the engine apart to see if it needs major work.

About 50 years ago my rockers wore out from lack of lube. the wrecker gave me a set off a gmc truck that turned out to have higher lift, I ground down the stands because the push rods were too short. used the truck carb, made dual exhaust.. It would out drag all the ford flatheasds.timothale

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
