If I score a decent block (off ebay) and I do all the work (except for the machine work) what is it going to cost to build a flathead? Anybody out there who has done this give me an idea?
Thanks,
CHAZ
I am looking for a street motor, nothing fancy.

what kind of flathead.... a more common one for a full rebuld with run you a little more than any motor other motor.... but if you're looking to do something more rare like my rambler... you're looking around $800 just for a set of pistons
Sorry, to be more specific, I am talking about a Ford flathead v8. The later 85 horse model.

I guess before I bid on any Flathead blocks on eBay, I would certainly want to see a magnaflux certificate. Without it, would seem likely that a guy could end up with quite a collection of cracked flattie blocks!!!!!! If someone is warrantying a block (or any part for that matter), it would seem he should be able to offer some sort of proof that his flattie block isn't cracked!!!!! JMO
Already answered it in your other thread a couple months ago, but obviously it wasn't what you wanted to hear!Quote:

Gee Bob, maybe the guy wanted to see if prices had gone down since your last post!!
Don't try to make an ass out of me! Yeah a couple months ago you gave me the incredibly accurate quote of 5-8k and no more information than that. Is that all new parts? Is that using the stock crank and rods? French block? Custom pistons?
I will try to get some info elsewhere, Thanks,

Step back and think about it. It's a two way street. When you say "I am looking for a street motor, nothing fancy" that doesn't tell us much. I threw a few qualifiers in the other post, but how much time would you like any of us to invest on your behalf to guess what will suit your needs? The more accurate info in, the more accurate info out. If you have an unlimited budget I, or someone else, could do an hours worth of posting, if you've only got $1000.00 it's a lot shorter answer. Drop the chip on your shoulder and carry your part of the load.Quote:

It's been like 5 months and I am still getting crap about this thread. You guys need to post more often to bury this bad boy. Your daughter looks nice in that picture! I didn't end up buying the car this motor was to be for (34 five window), a guy from Michigan saw a picture I had in another thread and drove the 8 hours to PA to pick it up.

This is actually more my style. Gotta love my boys car seat in the back!
