my 66 stang has been having some problems with idling ever since i bought it, i have the idle screw on the carb backed off all the way, but the idle is still way too high, so i mess with the distributor, i advance it and the idle starts dropping but the engine has no power, i retard it and the idle just gets higher, right now the lowest i can get the idle is 1400 rpms with power, car has new plugs, points, condensor, rotor, cap, wires, and a rebuilt holley 1v carb.... any suggestions?
Look for vacuum leaks. From the sound of it, it is either on the intake or just after the carb IE: carb seal. Another common culprit is a blown power brake booster. But if your power brakes are working, chances are you can rule this out.
Might seem a bit obvious, but is the linkage to the carb allowing the idle to go all the way down???
I'll check for leakage tomarrow morning, no power brakes its basic 4 wheel drum :( ... and already checked to see if it was carb linkage... thanks
the only way the motor can idle up(when you dont wont it to) is theres extra fuel and air getting into your motor from somewhere. a vac. leak wont make the motor ldle up unless there some extra gas to go with it. take a screw driver and stick it down into the carb and tap on the butterfly, to see if its gotten off center or carbon build-up around it. dont hit it hard enough to bend it though. if theres no vac. leakes it has to be the carb and or linkage. make sure the choke high idle adj. screw is off all the way. :DQuote:
