    new dizzy..?

I`m considering buying a new dizzy this year, what I have now is a Mallory unilite non vacuum advance, thou its been good I really need a vacuum advance, besides its been in there for ten years, and I don`t want to get left out in the cold when the eye decides to quit, its original, I value your guys opinions, I think I can get an HEI in there but will need to check, would you just buy another unilite with vacuum and save the old eye as a backup, or just change out altogether...?

I'm kinda a "if it ain't broke guy"..... If you're worried about component failure, you could carry a spare(s) part or two.

If you want to upgrade or experiment with the new technology... I'd remind you that electonics are all exposed to the same component failures, you may think you're getting away from an impending failure of a 10 year old unit only to experience infant failure. The new technologies can be exciting, I recently bought a new MSD dizzy that has an all electronic advance system. Both mechanical advance and the vacuum advance are electronic! Just a little dial under the cap to dial in what you need and when based on RPM.

I'm not usually a fan of the black magic called "digital".... but it's hard to argue against it sometimes!

I had previously used a dual point mallory without vacuum advance and had no complaints! But the dizzy won't fit into a new combination I want to try. So I made the jump.

I guess all I can provide you with is some thoughts to ponder.. The vacuum advance would be nice, but not a requirement and it would be interesting to make a log and track the changes in the car with a before and after comparison.. Good Luck!

I ran a unilite for over 15 years then sold the car. Sad to say the EYE did go out once but that was my fault . I shorted it out. That was on instalation when new...Read instructions carefuly. They are a bit (or were) pricey

Friend of mine switched his non-racer type Hot Rod over to a Petronix vacuum advance unit couple years back--he drives the car a lot and has had no problems with it. He sez the acceleration is much smoother with the Petronix then it was with his old MSD and a box.....

I`ve decided to keep the Unilite, bought another eye to keep in the road kit in the coupe, I might watch for another unilite with vacuum advance on CL or swap meets...my unilite as I said is ten years old, just get wary when some things have age to it.

Good plan - the Unilite is a proven component.
