Depends on where it works best...What's your initial timing set at, and where is the vacuum and centrifugal coming in at?????
it's set at 10 with 17 manifold vac
i've set timing as low as 4 with no help
Could back the initial off to 8--then see where the rest of the timing is coming in at...Soons like it hits too early, does it still rattle on ported vacuum??? Is your vacuum advance canister adjustable????
i've tried ported and manifold still rattles. i don't know about canister
Did you use a used balancer that might be spun ? Also take your Dist Cap and Rotor off and take a Look at your Advance weights and springs . Make sure they are not binding up and return Like they should . One more thing bad Fuel can also do this ?
Without knowing where the vacuum and mechanical advance is coming in, hard to say what needs to be done... Check the obvious, then put a light on it and see what the timing is doing.....
new professional products balancer 97 octane will check dist tomorow
shouldvac advance be hooked to ported or manifold vacume?
It depends on where you want it to start coming in at...Manifold vacuum port will be sooner....
Ignore the marks, retard it a few degrees and road test it. If it still pings, retard it more. When you get it to work the way you like, put a light on it and record the reading for future reference.
Be aware that a lean condition can cause pinging with the timing "correct" by the specs.
i've went so far back it won't hardley run
thanks guys i'll start over and try again this week TK
Try reading this from Lars Grimsrud, good stuff!

The last post contains the non-HEI and HEI vacuum canisters.
I have the HEI dizzy and use the AR-31 the "aggressive" canisters and that solved all my problems with pinging. Canisters run about $10 and are easy to install.
Hope this helps and let us know how you turned out!
