Exaust question
I think this is where this should go.
I am in the planning stage of a build. A 1960 Impala sport coupe restomod. The car will be HP BBC powered w an automatic. BUT I want the car to be a quiet cruiser as it is not what anyone would consider a HP muscle car. They are more commonly built as gennies or customs. Not to say there are not HP 60 Impala's far from it, I know of a few. Anyway I want an exaust on this car that will not constrict the exaust flow of a HP BBC Chevy w custom headers (461 CI, 490+ HP), BUT will not rattle the neighbors windows or inside trim. I have used Flowmasters and frankly while they are a great HP muffler they leave a lot to be desired in the noise dept. on a cruiser (This from a guy who used to collect loud exaust tickets and brag about it...) I was thinking 3" w an X crossover. It would be best I believe. . I can get turbo's in 2.5", but 3"???
A mild rumble is what I am after.
Anyone???
photo are Net pics in the same color ext/int combo-the last is the motor going in it, Now has Alum Pro Comp heads, air gap intake and 900 Vac sec Holley

See your located in MN. Look up Heartthrob Exhaust out in Litchfield MN. I have not used them but have heard good things about them doing exactly what it sounds like you want. If you want to hear another unique sound give Clark a call at Porter out in Mound MN.

I've talked to them in the past I think it was the BadBoyz show or BTT50's. I'll give them a call.

Wow! That is one sweet '60, and it brings back memories. My first car was exactly like yours, white w/red, 348 3spd. Took it to Corpus Christi in the Navy and ended up painting it silver and dropping a 4spd in it at the base Hobby Shop Garage. Loved that car, but like nearly everyone's first car I traded it for something newer. Yours looks very, very nice. Thanks for sharing.

I wish, heh heh ,file pics from carpics.com, Mine is the same colors w factory 283/ column shift 3 speed stick. WAY further from done than that one. It will be a full body resto w modern drive train + brakes + under pinnings. One concern is that the BBC will not fit under the hood w the Airgap intake. but I will deal w that when the time comes. While the body work continues I am doing the planning on other area's.

Flowmasters have a 70 series that work well with a BBC.

Any kind of aftermarket muffler is probably going to be too loud for you. I have cheap turbo mufflers on my Willys with a header to bumper set of 3 inch pipes. It's far too loud for what you want. If it had some kind of resonators it would be ok I think. You may be able to get some replacement mufflers say from a 396 Chevelle from Walker of other mfg that would be very good. You could add resonators if needed after the install. Why not just use the 409 mufflers.?? You can get them in 2 1/2 in pipes I think.
