Dial Back Timming light is a piece of Junk...

I don't like it when mags that tell us that things like : MSD says, The timming lights are bad! Ours is the good one! What else would a ignition company say.

They don't say the results of which ones, just that the others are just bad.

Just like the doctors, this yr, it's, bad to have a drink a day, then next yr, it's good to have a drink each day!

Mags have to put in what they say or they don't get money.

I'll keep using the one I have been for yrs! a Craftsman/no dial. I always set and check timming it at 750, 2000, 2800-3000rpms.

I have seen so many dial back timming when checking timming mark on the engine jummping around so badly at 3000 rpm and can't make out the true timming when I swichted to Regular timming light and the timming mark is steady.

One of my customer brought his High dollar Snap on dial back timing light to our shop and done some comparing it on his racecar and his light did show the timming mark jumping all the place and I got my Old school timming light and it show the timming mark is so steady you couldn't see it move.
Customer was so fustrated after he saw the diffrence and threw his timmig light far as he could and went bought plain jane timming light.

When It comes to electrical "tools" it does not hurt to check it your self. IMO I get a to thinking its electrical which means there is no error. I had to check out some electriclal components some of them 110 v I could not figure out the problem. After about 4-6 hours of troubleshooting i found that the problem was with my digital volt meter. I ran down the street and bought a new one and checked both side by side . The new one had the correct readings and the other new one had false reading across the board...... So as with anything else it does not hurt to check its accuracy from time to time......

I have a craftsmans dial back timing light rock solid never a problem.

Sure do wish I would have been there to catch it!!!! I would have sent it back to Snap-on and had it repaired then put it in the cabinet with my other one!!!!! The light used also depends on the ignition system in the car,,,,lots of dial back lights will not work with a multiple spark ignition system... I use my MSD light on them and my Snap-on for most everything else.... No problems.... Let me know next time somebody wants to throw away a perfectly good $400.00 timing light, I'll glady pay the freight to send it here!!!!!!

Guess I just can't afford to throw $400 lights around the shop is all!!!! But i guess I would let ya borrow it!!!!!
